Some information on Lexus changes for MY2004 from Auto Spies

Although I find Auto Spies' schtick to be annoying (click here to see why this
link could change your life!) they have some interesting tidbits from time to time.

Changes for all Lexus 04 models

LS 430

Exterior
• Front: Redesigned front fenders, hood, headlights, grille, bumper, foglights
• Rear: Redesigned trunk lid, combination lights, LED brake lights, license plate garnish, bumper, dual exposed exhaust
• Wheels
• New std. 17" design
• New opt. 18" wheel (245/45 R18)
• OAL + 0.7"
• 5 New exterior colors
• Moonlight Pearl
• Mercury Metallic
• Flint Mica
• Cypress Pearl
• Briarwood Pearl
• Deleted colors are Parchment, Millennium Silver, Platinum Blue, Mystic Sea, Midnight Pine

Interior
• I/P gauge needle changed from red --> white
• New interior colors are Cashmere, Ash, and Saddle (Ecru and Black
carry-over)
• 1 New wood color (Antique Walnut)
• Navigation screen will have new appearance and functions for 04MY (Gen 4)

• 6-A/T with sequential shift
• Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS)
• Knee airbags (D+P)
• Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM)
• Rear seat vanity mirrors
• Rear seat swivel reading lights
• Moonroof (previously optional)
• Power rear sunshade (previously optional)

New Optional
• Smart key
• Pre-collision system (January production)
• Back-up camera (set with navigation)
• Bluetooth (set with navigation)
• Rear climate control seats (Ultra Luxury only)
• Satellite radio (DIO)


ES 330 (Preliminary)

• New 3.3L V6 E/G (3MZ-FE)
• 225hp @ 5600rpm
• 240lb-ft @ 3600rpm
• ULEV-II classification
• 10.8:1 compression ratio
• 7.2sec 0-60mph
• 15.5sec 1/4 mile
• est. 20/29 city/hwy mpg rating

• Revised 5-Speed Automatic Transmission
• Wider gear ratios aid acceleration and mpg
• Better hydraulic pressure control for smoother, more responsive shifts
• Improved grade logic

• Memory Feature Now Available for Power Adjustable Pedals

• Gen 4 NAV
• The optional NAV is a new, improved 4th generation system with better graphics and some new functionality (such as phone number-based address location and building footprint display)

• Power Lumbar Availability for Front Passenger Seat
• Passenger seat power lumbar now included w/ power seat option

• New Upper Hinge for Front Headrests
• Allows lower portion of headrest to swivel towards occupant for larger support area and a better, more comfortable occupant fit

• Modified Exterior/Interior Combination Availability
• Due to complexity reduction, some combinations are no longer available:
• Alabaster Metallic no longer available w/ Black fabric
• Starlight Pearl is now only available with Ivory leather
• Blue Onyx Pearl has no fabric availability
• Black Garnet Pearl no longer available w/ Light Charcoal leather or Black fabric
• Black Onyx no longer available w/ Ivory fabric

• Larger Side Airbags
• Increased size provides significantly larger protection area (includes torso)

• Occupant Classification System
• Adopted for passenger seat with 3 deployment options (OFF/Low/High)


IS 300 (Preliminary)

• 3 New Colors
• Bluestone Metallic (8N6) [9/03 production; replaces Solar Yellow (576)]
• Indigo Ink Pearl (8P4) [8/03 production; replaces Intensa Blue Pearl (8N8)]
• Savannah Metallic (4R4) [8/03 production; replaces Cibola Gold Metallic (585)]

• Driver's Seat Memory
• 2-position seat memory for driver's seat (set w/ optional power seats)
• Controls slide position, front/rear vertical cushion position, and recline angle
• Memory control buttons are located to left of steering wheel (e.g. coin holder area)

• Smoked Gray Lights
• The headlights, fog lights, and taillights are all finished in smoked gray (for both sedan and SportCross)

• Speed-Sensitive and Shift-Linked Automatic Door Lock/Unlock

• New 11-Spoke Wheel
• Optional 11-spoke wheel (from Sport Design) available w/ summer and all-season tires for both sedan and SportCross

• New Mist-Type Front Washer Nozzle
• Shortened spray time and improved visibility during spray

• New Interior Accents
• Bright Silver replaces Dark Silver for:
• Window switch-surround
• Chronograph gauge and instrument cluster background
• Climate control dial rings
• Audio volume/tuning rings
• Steering wheel stitching, logo, and bezel bar
• Black replaces Dark Silver for:
• Audio plate surround
• A/T housing plate surround (soft feel paint)

• New Storage Compartment for non-NAV models
• New storage compartment with spring-loaded retractable lid is located in place of NAV for those models not equipped with NAV

• Audio Changes
• "RDS" and "Type" buttons have been replaced with 2 "Type" buttons to scroll up or down
• "6 DISC CD CHANGER" text has moved from the left of the CD eject button to a larger, more prominent position across the opening cover of the CD slot
• The LCD text display has gone from the use of short bars to smaller dots

• Oil Maintenance Indicator Light
• Blinks upon start-up when mileage interval is between 4500 and 5000 miles
• Stays illuminated when mileage interval exceeds 5000 miles


GX 470

• Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS)
• Tire Pressure Monitor (direct system like SC)
• Roll-sensing system (tied to curtain airbag)
• Back-up camera (set with navigation)


LX 470

• Back monitor (rearview camera)
• Bluetooth function added to navigation (DOP phone eliminated)
• Net hooks added to cargo area
• Navigation screen will have new appearance and functions for 04MY (Gen 4)


SC 430

• Seat recline logic has been changed to allow more adjustment when the seat is not in rear-most position


RX 330

• All-new RX 330 for 04MY (see New Model Highlights for details)


GS 430/300

• No changes for 04MY GS

Great info, thanks. If I weren't busy with a new house project I'd be seriously looking at an '04 LS430.
