How they describe it.

Lexus tells me that there's been a tenfold increase in structural adhesive in and new "laser screw weld" technique that allows the automaker to squeeze in twice as many welds points without damaging the chassis' metal due to overheating. The result is a firmer platform, which allowed Lexus' engineers to stiffen the dampers, roll bars and other moving bits for a claimed improvement in handling.
However the author of the article wrote 'new', when Lexus has been using Laser Screw Welding for many years now, especially since 2013.

LMAO . No Jill.. LSW.. Laser Screw Welding has been part of the 2016 4th generation RX body structure. They are simply adding MORE because they found a NEW TECHNIQUE

Adding more, new techniques. So it’s no big deal? 👍

kinda like phoning it in.

seriously though, doing a lot more welds means a stiffer structure, means better ride and handling, can make a car quieter, less squeaks/creaks, good stuff.

I still don’t get the point of saying that. It has more updates and tweaks than usual. Would you rather see a down sized engine? Or the addition of the RTI system that is criticized by so many. You are so negative towards Toyota and Lexus lately. Like you kinda spoil the thread for some others. (Just my observation)

I think they did a really great refresh on the RX. Perhaps a year late, but a worthwhile one nonetheless. It has more changes than I expected and if I were in the market for one, I'd wait for the 2020s to become available rather than securing a good deal on the 19s.

As for the GX, I do think it's better. The safety suite is long overdue, as is the revised instrument cluster, but I would have liked some more interior updates. Still love it, though.

The 4.6 started life as a car based engine. Nothing wrong with the car based engines, it is just the transmission and the level of power the engine produces.

The 3.5 in the Tacoma is a car engine. If they move to car engines. That will a disappointment. 4.6 in GX was still quite different than the 4.6 in the LS.

1UR-FSE (LS460 and GS460 US)
1UR-FE (GX460) (LS460 and GS460 Middle East)

Difference is the FE lacks D4-S direct injection

Yup 4.6L is car based. The 3.5L is simply not suitable for heavy duty work. It is too high revving with most of its power high up in the powerband. This is just Toyota being caught with it's pants down and shoving what's available into the Tacoma because the competition was coming for it.

I don't think they are changing that mentality anytime soon with the Land Cruiser and LX slated to get the LS 3.5TT. Granted it's forced induction so the low end torque will be more usable.

GX will be a mini LX they said....
Turns out its the same GX from the 1/2 back.

The cherry on top is, that with all the fanfare, Lexus GX gets Safety Suite 0.1 standard while everything else gets Safety suite 1.0 at the minimum.. 1 being PCS gets updated for pedestrian detection. Everything else is outdated. High Speed CC while the rest of the NON-TGNA lineup received DRCC

Again if they bump pricing, or expect folks to pay sticker....That 27k projection will have to be adjusted (EDIT that was fellow user projection not an actual TMA made)

The RX on the other hand, true GEM. AA/CP/ LSS 2.0, updated internals. If your in the market for a crossover/xover the leader is finally worthy competitor. Its no canyon carver etc, but as a reliable family luxury 5 seater, you really cannot look any further
