Actually, the Florida sales tax and property taxes are higher than the national average. Florida also has the 9th highest gas tax. They get you in different ways in non-income tax states. There is also an economic burden on the poor in no tax states as well.

In Virginia, though, those under a certain income level and/or net-worth, and, in some cases, the blind and disabled, get partial or full-relief from some of those property taxes. I see no reason why it would be different in Florida. IRS, in some ways, also gives them an added break on the Federal taxes.

Do you or your husband still own that 1996 LX in your signature? That could (?) be one of the feature-vehicles of this thread.
