Lexus BEGUN 20 years ago this month!!!
The closest Japanese pronunciation of Lexus is Rekusasu, which doesnt mean "Little Bird" as far as i know (i doubt it has any meaning)...
Earl, you are correct about the extra strokes in toyoDa. In both Hiragana and Katakana the Ta becomes a Da with the addition of 2 small strokes (like the " symbol).
In Kanji, Toyota and Toyoda are written the same...

Sorry, it should be 10 and 8 like you said, that was a typo. The point is still clear, toyada takes more brush strokes than toyota. I forgot most of the Kanji characters that I did learn a while ago, so thanks for attaching the image with everything written out in Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana.
I'll fix my typo, opps.

No wonder the letters L, E, X, U, and S practically run through my blood... I was born august of 1983 :-D, I must say i am VERY honored to share my birthday with Lexus. Long live Lexus!!!
another interesting fact:
toyoda san also once consulted a fortune teller(or simply an old guy of wisdom)
, he actuually suggested toyoda san to name as many of his car with letter begin with "C"..hence..(not in english of course, but in japanese pronounction)...
Corolla, Camry, Crown, Cressida, Celica..ect...coincidence..probably not..
