I don't think that's the point of the article (or this thread). Some are clearly worse than others.

Having driven in most all of these, I'm also surprised Atlanta isn't on the list.

Atlanta was 11th. Just barely missed the list.

Having driven in Atlanta, I agree, it can get crazy, especially based on the distance traveled compared to time.

yep, Houston basically has ZERO rail system - every freeway is jammed after 4p....even with no accidents.

I used to work in downtown Houston and lived 37 miles away - luckily, there's a small park & ride lot 1 mile from my house that I could walk to for a bus ride or vanpool (did both). I was always amazed that so many people with single car riders would be stuck on the freeway - the bus/van took the HOV lane which was wide open 99.5% of the time.

I'm not a geologist, but there may (?) be reasons why you can't build a subway underground in the Houston area. They are very close to the Gulf, there's a lot of swampy/marshy ground in the region, the ground itself is unstable, and, of course, Houston is subject to extremely heavy rains and major flooding, like we saw with Harvey, when much of the city was a mass of deep rivers.

Right here in D.C., where they DID build a subway under some marshy parts of the city, there are never-ending problems with the tunnels, leaks, waterproofing, and the need for constant maintenance.

I wouldn't wish our "L" Trains on my worst enemy. They are disgusting and ready to fall apart.

Denver just built rail 100% above ground, great system!

I think the many oil crooks, I mean companies have something to do with the lack of rail in Houston.

I've lived in 2 and 5 and would agree that the DC area and Beltway are worse than the LA area (and this is based on having lived in DC 20 years ago). DC does have a very good Metro system, which was a saving grace for me when I worked downtown. I get that it's relative in that the worst congestion is the traffic jam you're sitting in.

I've only been through Atlanta once and it was very congested. I'm also surprised it's not on the list.

Yes, but that is just for lack of maintenance. Everything old can be new again

Atlanta is worse than L.A. , so are the drivers & that is nothing new.

Again, that's the nature of top 10 lists. Atlanta was 11th. The ones that did make top 10 seem appropriate, at least based on hearsay. Out of these major cities, the only ones I have driven in are St. Louis, Dallas, Kansas City, Nashville, Tulsa, Seattle, and Atlanta. Notice how none of those are in the top 10 lol. But I have heard things - and basically everyone who's been to Atlanta will say the traffic is terrible.

i wouldn't live anywhere near any of them unless i had a crapton of money and could have a chauffeur or had an awesome work/live/play situation. even in my small town the traffic has increased significantly in the past 15 years.

That's because Florida has become a magnet for Northerners to move to in retirement. It's not the place for me, for a number of reasons, but is clearly attractive to a lot of people.

Los Angeles is the worst. It's literally why people don't move there. I wouldn't even consider a city a close second.
