Lexus has the worst cup holders?

Which models?
I know from my parents ES350, it had those needless things that grabbed the cup, so when you try to pull the cup, it’s harder than other cars, it would ask a resistance.

I had no issues with the cup holders in my 2013 RX350 and the ones in my GS350s have been completely satisfactory. However, the cup holders in my 14 IS350 were quite poor in their placement, though they did hold the drink cups securely enough.

I think they're fine. Have you checked out the German cupholders? Audi? Theirs are good for an 8 oz drink only, but they do still have the little ashtrays in the rear doors (the Q7/Q8).

GX460 and I think I missed some threads in my search
2010-2013 was really poor and the 2014 was re-designed but still complaints with it.

drives cars
The cupholders are placed right behind the passenger's elbow in the IS. It's kinda annoying, but that's the worst thing I can say about it aside from the occasional large drink that has trouble fitting. Doesn't bother me too much tbh.

the LFA doesn't even have cup holders haha
my cup holders are like exactly the size of a 12 oz seltzer can, anything bigger or taller and they can have trouble

As someone who has worked with "human-centered design," the cup holder placement makes me cringe every time I have to reach for my drink. It feels dangerous to try to reach and replace your drink into the cupholder while the car is moving.
My holders on my '16 IS also feel like they are dis-bonding from the center console and is starting to make creaking noises. Hope it doesn't actually detach.
Besides that, I think the size is good.

I ask because they used to do one style of cupholder, and now do another which are much better.
Older Lexus vehicles, such as your LS430 and the LS400 had slide out style cupholders that were pretty terrible. The cupholders in the 430 are a little better, but in the 400 it was cans of soda and that was really it:

Modern Lexus cars have in set console cupholders which are MUCH better:
