In those days, a Packard was considered a prestige nameplate....one of the best-engineered cars on the market. That did not change until the mid-1950s, when the company merged with Studebaker and lost its identity. They would be history just a couple of years later.....and Studebaker (except for the Avanti), abut 7 or 8 years after that.

Because it's Packard related. The Detroit Packard plant's bridge collapsed the other day. Picture of the collapse in in the link

The link didn't provide photos, but here's the old Packard plant then, and now.

BTW, what is left of the old plant has been sold to a Spanish investor. He plans a number of mixed-use facilities on the site, starting construction later this year.

I just checked it. It does. Scroll down, and it's a picture posted from historicdetroit.org's twitter feed.

Either way, it probably won't be there for long. After 60 years, it looks like it's finally going to be redeveloped. Detroit, obviously, could use a lot more of that....much of the city is in run down condition.

Back to the topic (the lost car), it will be interesting to see who winds up with it, who legally owns it (I'd assume whoever bought the old plant), and what they eventually do with it.

if you watch the tail end of the video, its being kept in the family and they're debating whether to restore to brand new or restore to running condition and keep in its current state but just cleaned up.
