Rivian R1S SUV and R1T Pick-up thread
watching edmunds review, i realize just how small this truck is. even with tailgate down you can't fit a 4x8 in the bed. rear seat not that roomy. looks very nicely made though.

I think the whole reason Tesla, Lucid, Rivian and others are valued as they are is precisely because they are NOT Ford, GM or any other more traditional manufacturer and are free from the the constraints that all the legacies are stuck with.
more than 1% charge per mile for towing, going up in elevation and 40 deg weather. Hardly gained any during downhill. Estimated 1.5 hours to charge

At the 15:00 minute mark. Shows why people will not buy BEVs in mass. What a messy lifestyle for these two. At one point he believes the electric station is actually throttling his charge.
That is a nice interior. Looks more mid size. Great performance

Rivian was only able to go about 150 miles (estimated range of 280 at 100% battery for the spec they had) towing a 2,000 lb trailer. I don't think that is very good considering how much it could potentially tow, which is 11,000 lbs. What is the average weight people tow with a truck that can tow that much? And how far do they usually go? I can see this being great for someone who tows short distances, but anything longer distance would be better with an ICE truck. They compared the new Tundra and estimated it could do about 470 miles.

I think the use case for these goes right over some posters’ heads. No one is buying these for distance towing. They are buying them because they are quicker, quieter, more advanced and generally more interesting than any ICE competitor. That they can tow (and heavy loads at that) is a bonus. It is not the primary reason these are bought.
I have a confirmed order for an electric truck which should deliver this year, and I have a few other vehicles that can tow my boat (and heavier loads) long distances or between our properties.
When something doesn’t make sense, it’s a pretty good indication that you were never in the target market.

Car and Driver did a tow test. Can’t imagine the range at full tow load. Will be interesting to see Ford F-150 hybrid or the Tundra hybrid towing. Rivian is not even a full size truck.
Car & Driver
Switching to Tow mode comes with some ominous foreshadowing, as the R1T's indicated range disappears, instantly going from 270 miles to 103
