Again, Rivian is in a decent financial position. Their cash on hand, roughly $17bn to 1$8bn or so, is more than half of their current market cap. They aren't going away any time soon.

https://www.theverge.com/2022/8/18/2...e-discontinued

Some Rivian customers aren’t happy the company canceled its most affordable electric truck

Rivian canceled the entry-level version of the R1T, effectively raising the price of its base model electric truck by over $6,000, according to an online forum for customers and later confirmed by the company.

The company said in an email to customers that it was canceling the base “Explore” model, which started at $67,500, in favor of the $73,000 “Adventure” trim. Customers can either upgrade to the more expensive trim level or cancel their orders, the company advised. Rivian has also “discontinued” the less expensive trim for its R1S electric SUV, which is expected to start shipping to customers later this year.

In an email to preorder holders, a copy of which was shared with The Verge by Rivian spokesperson Tanya Miller, the company says it made the decision to no longer offer the Explore package so it can “deliver as many vehicles as possible.”

The email says that “focusing on the Adventure trim package” will let Rivian “streamline” its supply chain and make more vehicles. In its most recent earnings report, the company reported delivering 4,467 vehicles and restated its goal to build 25,000 this year.

Stinks, but they have a demand far outstripping supply issue. They can afford to prioritize expensive units for now. As that demand starts to taper off relative to overall build capacity etc they can reintroduce offering lower price variants to boost volumes again.

marques brownlee, hugely popular youtube tech reviewer, has started a new channel called auto focus.

he recently got a rivian r1t as his new 'gear' truck for doing videos.

and not surprisingly, his first video on the new channel is about that.

truck looks AWESOME in this video.

Marques is the last guy I would watch for a car review lol. He's not a car guy by any stretch of the imagination - it's all about tech only for him.

Ive seen one. They do look really good. I thought it would much larger, it’s the size of a Ford Ranger. I hope he touches on the 7000lb curb weight. But crazy 3.0 to 60mph

Have you seen one?

was in my C & D mag today as well.

It's 7 inches longer than a Ranger and just over an inch wider.

disagree completely. i think a lot of car reviewers are techies for one thing, plus marques owns a ton of cars, including a plaid, and not just for the 'tech'.

i honestly think that's debatable. with so much software, connectivity, apps, and emerging self-driving abilities, they're mobile computers with wheels and motors.

really surprised how nice the interior is.
very nicely positioned screen and normal gauge screen too.
few gremlins/oddities he points out, but overall really great for a first product.

Any owners out here care to share their experience? Getting bored of my Model Y, so looking at getting a quad motor R1T while I wait for my r1s on order ...

Rivian and Mercedes partnering up on electric vans. Full article above, but the gist of it below

The companies envisage production-optimised vehicle designs for efficient manufacturing on common assembly lines. They will aim to produce two large vans, one based on VAN.EA (MB Vans Electric Architecture), the electric-only platform of Mercedes‑Benz Vans, and the other based on the second generation electric-van, Rivian Light Van (RLV) platform. Further options for increased synergies from the joint venture will also be explored.
