Yes, I know. I have been around the automotive industry since I was old enough to hold a wrench. I know exactly what goes into the designing of a car, from the initial sketch, to the last lugnut being tightened. I have also been a member here at CL since 2004. A fair portion of what I have learned about cars has been learned right here.

And all along they way there is the potential for someone, or a whole team of someone's, to drop the ball.

Looks like the design team failed on this one, just like the Aztec, just like the Juke, and hey, even Toyota/Lexus can make ugly cars. Seen the grille on a base avalon lately? or how about the new lower-trim Ram Trucks? All of which are pretty hideous.

Having said that, we all know looks are subjective. Some will like it, some won't, no matter what it looks like. It really isn't that big of a deal.

#logicfail 'nice' is subjective, and many cars, costing a bundle to develop, have turned out to be viewed by the majority as ugly.

the poster child of ugly, the pontiac aztek, no doubt cost a ton of money to develop and market.

anyway, i'm with the majority here, this thing is seriously fugly, appealing to guys with big belt buckles, fragile egos, and names like bubba.

Idk. Maybe I need to get my eyes checked or something but thats a really nice looking truck imo.

As for the Aztec, that car was built in a time where designers didn't have much to play with, yet they still made a lot of stylistic strides. It was a car ahead of its time.

frontward visibility must be AWFUL in this monstrosity. why does the hood have to be SO HIGH and so much higher than the side belt line? makes the windshield tiny. driver's will need to use a front camera to avoid running over sedans and people.

I'm not an engineer, but my strong guess is for four reasons, First, because these trucks tend to have big engines that need enough underhood space so that owners and mechanics can in and work on them in reasonable ease. Second, because the raised-stance of he 4WD versions, and the extra hardware needed underneath, means that the hood has to be that much taller to accommodate everything with the roper clearance. Third, these trucks, while not universal, tend to be bought and driven by taller American males (you yourself used the term Bubba LOL) , that don't have as much trouble leaning over the open hoods as smaller persons would. Fourth, probably the image factor....a high hood tends to give a chunky, Macho look, which is the image the manufacturers are tying to portray. Just look at the TV ads, for instance.....you don't see these trucks being marketed to nuns LOL.

^^ This would help so much.

Coworker of mine photoshopped it to have a smaller cooling section on the front:

Not making a huge difference I think. Also needs the bar in the grill moved.
