The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD Unveiled....unfortunately

Good hell this thing is ugly. I'm honestly impressed.

Woe unto those who stare directly at the grille of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD! Thy villages burned to the ground, thy fields plowed asunder! They who looketh at it shall immediately be turned to stone!
Ha, just kidding, friends, only jokes. But the new Silverado HD is indeed very ugly. The three-quarter angle is better, but only slightly:
There’s a big square face with a massive bar across its eyes and it screams at you “CHEVROLET,” as if its an order to run away rather than the name of a reasonably-priced American transportation company. Mission accomplished then.
Chevy hasn’t released too many details just yet in the official press release, but will only say that it’ll have “an all-new gasoline engine,” which is mysteriously light on even the vaguest details such as the number of cylinders, and the venerable turbodiesel V8, with 910 pound-feet of torque hooked up to a new 10-speed transmission.
And just 90 torques short of 1,000 ain’t nothing to sneeze at.
But Chevy says that no matter what that gasoline option entails, it’ll be able to do more than the old truck besides send small children and animals fleeing:
"The 2020 Silverado HD also will offer all-new customer-focused trailering technology, significant increases in towing and payload capabilities and a host of technologies and features designed specifically for heavy-duty truck customers."
The rear three-quarters of the Silverado HD look like a pickup truck, though, I suppose:
And there are steps to help you access things in the back of it, and pickups, much like minivans, live and die by their ease of use. So that’s good.
With the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD, it’s all business in the back, and some sort of deeply strange party up front.

They didn't even wait for legal weed in Michigan.

That straight on view from the front is pretty awful. Less of a disaster from an angle.
Surprised to see Car and Driver's comment on the looks:

Chevrolet has released the first images and details of the 2020 Silverado HD, and the brand says that the new heavy-duty trucks will be "the most capable and most advanced" ever. That's all well and good, but what we really care about is the looks. The new Silverado HD, shown here in 2500 form, looks so much better to our eyes than the standard Silverado 1500.

Apparently the folks at C&D need eye exams.

Move over, Aztek......you've got company.
Marry Barra is going to have almost as difficult a time justifying this monstrosity as she will closing the sedan plants.
Like the F-150, though, it will probably sell simply because it has the name Silverado on it.

I'd love to meet the focus groups that like this thing.

It's possible they completely ignored the focus groups.
Ford did market research on the 1997 redesign of the F-150(which i call the Jelly Bean). Most feedback was negative. Too soft looking for a truck.
They said screw it and sold it anyway. After a few years they did a complete redesign and gave us the 2004 F-150 that was less round.

Yep.....certainly possible. I was on a focus group for the 1Gen CTS, and Cadillac ignored most of our recommendations....except for the paint-colors. The 1Gen was not much of a success, and the totally redesigned 2Gen (which DID implement a number of our suggestions) fared much better.
