apparently the tesla model 3 dashboard can get you pulled over
"you're not allowed to have your computer mounted on there" the officer tells him. at least he owned up to his mistake and let the guy go without incident lol...
thought this was an amusing potential side effect of driving a model 3. pic for reference:
From what I've seen people don't have a problem with it after a few minutes of getting acclimated, and the simplistic dash allows amazing visibility and has a zen like quality. Would I own a car with no instrument cluster? Never.
IMO, traditional buttons and switches are much better, especially on bumpy roads, where, if the car bounces up or down, your finger can slip while trying to hit one touch-icon, and hit the one next to it instead.
traditional buttons also don't go away when the car is off. the model S has the most boring interior ever when the car isn't on. and someone please jump in here, but isn't basically the entire operation of the car essentially disabled if there's a problem with the screen?
.I am sure people get used to it since they love their Tesla and everything is justified, if Toyota did it, we would see quite the response.
Personally such big screen even in "dark mode" would bug my eyes at night, it is LCD, it emits a lot of light regardless of night mode.

Could a Model3 owner chime in here and mention what is NOT on the screen? For example, I'd assume there is a conventional turn signal stalk.
What about headlights? Hi-Low beam? Cruise control? Wipers?

Having driven one, I can at least confirm the lights and wipers are on stalks. Just Googling, I really am having a hard time discerning where cruise is. Seems like it is controlled via the steering wheel, but of course, the steering wheel controls are contextual.
I'd place a hefty wager it's more a matter of time before:
1) more cars have similar screens
2) voice commands replace buttons or the need to touch a screen whatsoever
3) none of this will feel like a danger or distraction because cars will soon be driving themselves

Lots of people are haters because they never drove one and when I got back to my IS350 my car feels outdated real fast. Speedometer on the Tesla screen is non-issue once you get use to it.
I doubt it, have you been in a Tesla? You can watch movies, surf the web and do anything while the car is moving. No way that continues. We can't even have cars with Clear reflectors in the front here. We have to add a stupid little orange piece.
