I think the E9x M3 is probably more engaging to drive and the NA V8 plus the steering feel were great.
The F8x cars are just so capable and fast that for some people it takes away from the experience.
The N55 is a great engine and i had it in my 535i. Amazing linear power and smooth torque delivery.
The S55 is more brutal like the N54 was and has way more power.
I have 285s in the rear and I break traction all the time even in 3rd/4th gear which is not good bec then the ECU cuts power.
S55 is the better engine hopefully BMW programmed the right way for M2 as to not over power it.
We'll have to wait and see how refreshed M2 compares to the current one. And they really need to do something about god awful exhaust note of the S55 engine.

Right lol
You realize original M2 didn't have M engine which is why some BMW owners didnt feel it is a "true" M car!
It also didn't have important features like M1 M2 settings, M mirrors, M seats, CF components etc.
This new M2 Comp model is a huge improvement in every way.
This looks great but I'm concerned about pricing. The ///M2 is currently one of the most affordable performance cars in the world, coming in around the same price as your average mid-level 5-series which everybody and their mother drives. The ZCP Paket will make it less of a bargain.

I haven't seen this mindset from any fellow BMW enthusiasts, including on Bimmerpost who tend to be the most critical of the bunch. Any concerns about using a non-M engine were laid to rest by the original 1///M a few years back.

Its only affordable if you finance not lease.
The other issue is finding an allocation at MSRP. Good luck with that on the new one.

If you're concerned with wheel spin, the next M3 is rumored to be AWD only, so it will have a lot more traction and outperform the current M3 in every measurable way. At the same time it will be a lot less engaging to drive.

Also i love the bodystyle, its my favorite BMW design since E46 M3.
The CP exhaust sounds MUCH better especially with the overrun burbles.
The bad sound that all The YouTube show is at cold start and the fart noise.
Will it ever sound like a V8? No but CP is a big improvement.
I had 2016 non-CP so i speak from personal experience.

Thats why i got the F80 M3CP. I dont want AWD and added complexity.

Dealer mark-ups aren't as prevalent as they were earlier. On AutoTrader there are a decent number of brand new models that are priced at MSRP.

I'm not a fan of the new BMW designs of the Gseries cars and the F80 to me is just gorgeous.
I bought my M3 and it has more than enough performance for me for now. Its last year for this generation and i custom ordered it with PCD delivery. Plus this is the only year that came with the 2nd LCI update. So plan to keep it around for awhile - this is my 5th BMW. Plus with some simple tuning you can make more power easily.....
I think in the next 5 years, I really would like to replace my BRZ with a GT3 manual or if new Supra gets a manual. In that case I would probably sell the M3.

If its priced under $60k - its an amazing value! Interesting to see how the new Supra will be positioned against this M2.
