Crossovers may receive similar fuel efficiency ratings as comparably-sized sedans but they will not get similar real-life fuel efficiency numbers because they have greater frontal area (riding on higher suspensions) and more importantly, they can be much heavier.

Because even car-based crossovers are classified as light trucks, their design and fuel efficiency standards are different (more lenient) than cars.

It's going to be interesting to see if Bronco II can capture some Jeep Wrangler sales. If they're serious they are going to need a two door and four door version just like Jeep does. Smart to go with the Ranger architecture from the other side of the world. You have solid axles and a low range crawler gear. You want authencity in this market, not city scooter fakes with a square body.

That had been the case for a short time with a small, select amount of models, but not currently. The new standard Camry and Accord have raised the bar again and are now at the 30/40 mpg mark. Now the smaller SUV's need to catch up once again.
