I saw this the other day and couldn't help but notice how many design cues on this Altima concept are eerily similar to what we're seeing in new Toyota and Lexus vehicles. It seems the Japanese brands are evolving and merging into a very similar design structure- sharp angles, large pockets/openings below the headlights, styling lines/creases extending from the rear tail-lights, similar headlight and tail-light sizing and designs, etc. I also look at things like the interior details of the new QX80 and see a lot of similarities to what Lexus is putting into the LS500 (stitching patterns on the seat and door panels, etc). It seems the definition of Japanese luxury is becoming consistent across the brands from a styling perspective. It may be hard for the average Joe to tell Japanese brands apart, but there's no mistaking them from the German brands. Styling is going in very different directions.

There are certainly some LC influences (some would say blatant rip off). But I bet production models will be substantially tamed down or not look like the renderings at all. The one pic is pretty damn funny it makes the doors look 50 feet long.

That is exactly what they are trying to do. Nissan, Toyota and Honda are all trying to differentiate themselves as distinctly Japanese. As the US car market ever so slightly gets smaller each year, you need to make yourself stand out. The new styling direction also is to further separate themselves from the American brands which seem to be less edgy and more relaxed. It is interesting that as Ford and GM and Chrsyler all abandon (200) or threaten to abandon (Fusion, Impalas, LaCrosse), it is Japan companies coming out with edgy designs and premium pricing with no rebates. I think the new LS500 looks like a stretched Nissan Maxima/Altima, I have read many say that.
if they kept it true to concept, I'd probably buy one. That's a pretty good looking concept, minus that slanted character line going into the middle of the door.
unlike the concept, the production version has longer overhang and crappier proportions
