Default 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

More power, more glory

It will be the most powerful non-turbo Porsche ever to take the road

The 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has come, and glory with it. The engine provides the first half of the GT3 RS show, that naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six now good for 520 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. That's 20 hp above the last GT3 RS and the current GT3, making this motor the most powerful naturally aspirated powerplant ever slipped inside a road-legal 911.

The second half of the GT3 RS show is what it can do with that power. Acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour now happens in 3.0 seconds, one-tenth quicker than before, two-tenths quicker than the 2018 911 GT3. Shifting through a retuned, seven-speed PDK, racer types can reach 193 mph in top gear. Downforce goes up, thanks to a larger lip on the front spoiler, larger side skirts, and a reworked rear diffuser. Porsche says at 124 mph, the GT3 RS achieves twice the downforce of the current GT3.

Recalibrated rear steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus help dispatch corners, bucket seats with carbon-fiber-reinforced backrests hold drivers in place through those corners. New helper springs on the front and rear axles will keep the ride more planted, and NACA ducts in front, cribbed from the 911 GT2, keep the brakes cool. Porsche Motorsport maintained the expected weight-loss regime, with a magnesium roof, polyurethane front and rear fascias, carbon fiber trunk lid and fenders, titanium muffler and exhaust tips, lightweight glass, door pull loops on lightweight door panels, and less sound insulation throughout.

There'll be 20-inch wheels on new rubber as standard, but those that want to shave even more weight can opt for forged magnesium wheels that eliminate 25 pounds at a cost of $13,000. Add on the optional Weissach Package for $18,000, and another 13 pounds go away thanks to carbon fiber roof, front and rear sway bars, coupling rods, steering wheel trim, and shift paddles. The Weissach Pack and the wheels drop weight to 3,153 pounds.

The 2019 911 GT3 RS says hello at next month's Geneva Motor Show, and gets to dealers in late 2018, with a starting price of $187,500, plus $1,050 for handling and delivery. Bring it on.

One of the most iconic and special cars out there. I wish more automakers tried to emulate this formula. Not saying it would be the same or better, just very bespoke.

I drove a GT3 during a half day supercar drive event only on public roads but it was fantastic. This was back in 2005 or something like that. Drove Ferrari F360 McLaren SLR, Gillardo as well and the GT3 was my top favorite along with the F360.

this was back when horsepower numbers still started with 3(80)HP, now thats base Carrera HP.
