0-60 niche Rambler's beloved A6-based A7 sold 4,000+ units.

Any talk of CLS, 6 Series or A7 being axed?

Those cars are just rebodied versions of Eclass, 5series and A6.
Therefore for some more coupe like styling they charge $10k more.
All the R&D costs are covered.

GS is not based on a better selling Lexus therefore its poor sales are an issue and probably dont cover the necessary R&D costs needed to keep up with competition.

You’re comparing four-door coupes or hatchbacks to a traditional sedan. Cars that are indeed very niche versus something that isn’t. Compare the GS to the 5, or E or even the last model year of the A6. What’s sad is that those niche vehicles can outsell the GS.

The GS doesn’t sell well due in large part to the crappy engine.

When it comes to RWD sedans, the engine and performance are important elements versus the likes of the ES. People compare and see some crappy, slow engine and it speaks for itself and reflected in the poor sales.

The only thing that will save the GS is an engine that actually can make the base version hit 60 in A LEGITIMATE 5 seconds or less. One that has 350 to 360 healthy HP. It’s not enough to match, they have to move ahead.

But it won’t happen because they can’t or are incapable.

The GS may not be based on a better-selling Lexus model but it is based on a Toyota model, the Toyota Crown. And the next GS, like the Crown, and Lexus LS and LC, share the GA-L platform. The GS is far from being a one-off, single model on its own platform.

The 5GS will share the GA-L platform with : LC500, LS500, next gen IS and current JDM Toyota Crown.

There's little commercial pressure for the 5GS to sell in mass market numbers freeing Lexus to be a bit more experimental and risky with the 5GS design and performance
