LOL, But you have to pick your poison. It's either that or this below

The Toyota research group in Michigan doing this work was actually very proud that they could miniaturize and package all of the sensors on the white 600hL into the more "elegant" array of the gray car!

What happens to the sensor when it snows? Will a little robot pop out and clean it up?

sensors are on the side, not at top... but in general, none of the systems will work in bad weather anyway... so rain, heavy wind, snow = not working.

how about heating elements all over it to melt anything on it?

exactly. a non-issue eventually. now if 10 feet of snow is on top of the car, the car likely would say "hey you lazy bum, shovel all that off the roof!"

i guess that the shipping system will be built into sides of the roof in the end anyway. But progress is quite nice for one year.

Toyoda was smart to get the best team possible in the US R&D, Japanese are too careful for this kind of stuff.
