Lexus LS500/LS500h

Are you for real? Then what is the purpose of hybrid? To make that awesome electric noise at low speed? Yes, I'll pay extra for that so my neighbors/GF/mistress/mom/dad won't get pissed off if I want to drive my car at some odd hours.

People buy hybrids to make a statement. They don't make sense from an economic standpoint to save fuel cost.

Depends on how you define "wow". The last time I drove an LS, I definitely enjoyed it. Some of us enjoy comfort, quietness, refinement, and quality....whjch defines the LS to a tee.
1k/mo. isn't the slam dunk it once was, especially with the g90 nipping at its heels too.

That seems troubling, given the LS is nothing like the S-class in terms of styling or powertrains (except for the new S450 I suppose, which also uses a turbo 6-cylinder). With the price gap, I'm not sure most LS buyers would even be the same buyers considering an S-class. Call me crazy (or don't ) but I would hope Lexus doesn't have to sell the LS as a poor man's S-class. They are very different vehicles with their own strengths. Then again, I guess that on paper, it is sort of a more-affordably priced S-class - rear-wheel-drive-based, full-size luxury sedan that, in some trims, might be better to be driven in than to drive for some shoppers.

Initial Lexus LS Orders in Japan Exceed First Year Sales Goal
Japan has been waiting for this car...
https://lexusenthusiast.com/2017/11/...ar-sales-goal/
The 2018 Lexus LS is already a big hit in Japan — pre-orders for the new flagship sedan have reached 9,500 units, or nearly 1,600% higher than the sales goal of 600 units a month. The LS 500h is dominating the powertrain split, with 72% of the mix.

I've heard some say the G90 is like the LS of this generation. Hmm, if the G90 is the new LS and the LS is the budget S-class, then the G90 is the new budget S-class? Where does that leave the LS?
In all seriousness, I haven't driven a G90 (and obviously not an LS), but with informed shoppers, which is key I might add, Lexus does have their work cut out for them. The brand loyalty and amazing interior won't hurt, but the "grass is always greener" syndrome might cause some LS drivers to defect to Genesis... In my book I'd be happy with either car, but given my current car budget doesn't include either one of these I'd take the G90 gladly and save a few thousand. Not to mention I can have it with a V8, which I actually have driven in the G80 and definitely would appreciate.

Being a consumer in this class I can tell you, $15,000 matters. Perhaps not to everyone, but to me and plenty others. If it didn’t Lexus wouldn’t exist. Neither would Genesis.
The LS has always really been less car for less money than the S class. That comes from a 3 time LS owner.
When i “really make it” I will buy the S class. That hasn’t changed.

The G90, though quite impressive (I think its hardware feels even more solid than the LS) simply does not, as of yet, sell in high enough numbers to be significant competition to the LS. If it came down to an absolute choice between the two, however, with nothing else involved, I'd probably be satisfied wth either one.
