RWD, high power, low-profile summer tires, wet roads, and carelessness behind the wheel do not mix....especially when they are all combined at once. 
Also, as I have mentioned in the past, and I'll repeat it here......over the years, I've seen more young people (and young adults) hurt or killed in V8 Mustangs (Cobra, SVT, GT, etc....), from careless and aggressive driving, than in any other single vehicle...with the BMW 3-series in second-place. Your friend was lucky.

Yes, that's a possibility, but true summer tires are primarily designed for (and perform best) on warm dry pavement....they are the type you are most likely to find on typical high-performance cars.

This seems more like a case of driver error, irresponsibility, inexperience, whatever, rather than what kind of car he was driving. Just about any car can be made to do dumb and dangerous things. Especially on wet pavement.

Absolutely. But my point was that, proportionally speaking, a lot of Mustang, BMW 3-series, and, to a lesser extent, Camaro drivers tend to try dumb and irresponsible things like that. You can get into trouble in any car (except maybe a self-driving one LOL)
if you are dumb enough...but certain makes of vehicles tend to have drivers that predominate in that class.

the wider the tire the less quickly it can disperse water. Hopefully he learned his lesson. If police saw this video the could call this street racing between the two mustangs. If nothing else it's reckless driving, which is an arrestable offense. If you want to see what your car can do, go to track day. It's not cool to put others on the road at risk.

He should seriously take auto x. There he'll learn a LOT about his vehicle in a safe environment.
This will help you in emergency situations in inclement weather, going around dropped objects from back of trailers, pick ups (a BBQ grill fell off once right in front of me I was able to avoid fast but safely.) emergency braking. Going around cones is GREAT fun and you learn a thing or two about your own "legendary" skills. Ha!
I learned a ton about my car handling limits but more importantly my own. Be safe & be smart. Take your friend out to a SCCA sanctioned event.

He corrected better then some I've seen. IE: Mustang crowd control reputation. Regardless, just looks like a quick loss of control.
I've had lot's of Mustang's, Foxbodies, 03 Cobra's, Coyote based S197 platforms, from 250 WHP to my street driven 900 whp setup. Never wrecked or lost it in one, an I drove in rain and even snow a few times.
