In photography, it is still pretty tough to call.
Just as a car is the sum of its parts, a camera is also the sum of its parts too.

Sony has been making sensors for video cameras since the 1970's and 1980's, such that today, Sony makes the best camera sensors in the world.
Just as the Tesla Model S accelerates from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds or whatever, a car is more than just 0-60.
In the same way, there is more to a camera than just the Sony CMOS sensor, and mirrorless operation.

Go to any football or baseball match, and the stadium is filled with Canikons.
Sony is still short on ergonomics, a number of professional lenses, and a number of other key features.

Furthermore, Canon still sells more cameras than all their rivals added together.
Canon still makes more money than all their rivals added together.
Despite Canon selling this many, and making this much money, experts still agree that Canon and Nikon are equals...

If you read closely Steve, it's not about Sony - it's actually someone digging up an old post about the fundamental principle of rivals being equally good, but in different ways, esp pertaining to Benz, BMW & Lexus etc.

It's not about the 2019 Lexus ES is the point, it's off topic. This is a good thread please don't derail it.

Yes, you tell newyerker Steve.
But just before you tell him, how many times have you derailed a thread Steve?

Good point, as surely too many are guilty of the same thing they try to accuse others of. You make very excellent contributions on here, so please never take the impression that your insightful efforts aren't appreciated. Thank you!

Sadly folks are going to overlook this post, but you sir are spot on. The 7ES will be pushed a bit further upmarket emphasizing like you said practical, spacious, luxurious and comfort principles. The 5LS and 5GS will also move up slightly, making room for 7ES and 4IS in the coming years. Also The 7ES will be one of the first to debut Apple CarPlay in a Lexus. If I could thank or like your post I would @peteharvey
Great post Jared, thanks as always for bringing good work to the table and keeping these relatively chill and to the point. I was very confident the GS wasn't going away, even though quite a few folks were very quick to discredit me and my background knowledge. The rumour is from nearly a full year ago, not "earlier this year".

Many lazy or clickbait auto "journalists", failed to pick up on the future GS, when I first highlighted the freezing of development at end of 2016 and corrected it as the story gained steam months later.

Now regarding the 240B programme, the next generation ES has been in development for about 4 years now, that it was already done with styling just a few months after TMMK began building their own MY16 XV60 ES in Fall 2015. The MY2019 already started being shown to select audiences last year, including some Lexus USA staff in the autumn of 2016 in Fuji, Japan. Comparatively, the MY2018 LS was first shown in the summer of 2014.
