Rolls-Royce builds the Sweptail, a beautiful one-off boattail coupe

That is for sure. What a complete waste of money. Reminds me of an old Simpsons episode where Homer's rich brother gave him an infinite budget to build the greatest car ever and Homer produces a monstrosity that bankrupts the company. This atrocious RR experiment won't hurt the owner's wallet much but I'm not impressed the end result. Are people actually supposed to sit in the back on those hard sauna benches? If you wanted to throw away money then why not pay for some people's education instead of building this pointless car. I understand the yachting influences but it just reminds me of another ugly, ill-conceived Franken-mobile -- the Accord CrossTour.

Back to OT, I'm somewhat surprised that Rolls did this design instead of Bentley. Bentley, in its corporate-philosphy, is usually less-conservative than Rolls, generally appears to a somewhat younger and more sporting buyer, and would usually be more likely to come up with something like this.

youre assuming that he isn't philanthropic with his money. And if he is...at what point is he allowed to spend HIS money on other things that make HIM happy?

Modern Rolls Royces just don't appeal to me at all unfortunately. The Wraith and Dawn are okay, but the Phantom and Ghost are just ugly IMHO. Especially the interiors, they're just flat and ancient looking, tiny gauges...not my thing.
Nowadays I'd much rather have a Bentley, making much better looking cars IMHO

So the owner is Chinese billionaire, Sam Li. He was the principal owner of the Veloqx racing team that competed at Le Mans in the early 2000s. His car collection is....extensive.

i parked next to a rolls royce phantom at target of all places in temecula, california (my city). anyhow, my IS parked next to the phantom was miniature in comparison. i couldn't believe the sheer size of the vehicle when placed next to a more pedestrian lexus IS. i was in awe of its size but disgusted by its design. it is one ugly car.
