Rusted frame
Found out today that my 2006 Lexus GX470 is totaled because of its entire frame being completed rusted out. I have read a few other articles about this problem....and also about rusted frames in Toyota trucks during these years. Was there a problem with the steel or frames for Lexus during this time period? I know that the salt on roads and living near salt water cause these types of problems, however, my other cars are older Audis and have no rust on the underbody. Any one know anything about any of this?

There was a major class-action suit for premature rust on Toyota truck-frames, but, unfortunately (at least, to my knowledge), that settlement did not include body-on-frame Lexus models.

Out of curiosity, does insurance cover this when you say totaled? My parents live in CT and oddly none of their cars have any rust (exterior), and one of the "extra" cars is a 2000 Elantra, and a 1994 Taurus! The 2006 TSX has no rust but is garaged, and the other car is a 2017. How did this come about since as far as I know there is no state inspection....
On my LS, when on a lift, and also 2006, the indie states he is able to tell the car was not used in the northeast from 2006 (it was in FLA until 2014)...
p.s. what is everyone's thoughts on preventing the OP's situation? I am skeptical that simply doing automatic car washes with undercarriage can prevent it, but have no way to prove that. Of course car wash owners would feel differently....
