cd (coefficient of drag) at Lexus
Is this no longer a priority....some of the new cars are up in the .33 range....I sort of know the Lexus story in my head, they had 4 objectives...if I remember quietness and aerodynamics was one or two.....the net net was that by 2001, the LS if equipped with an air suspension had a cd of .25, .26 without. That's pretty low. Yes if we remember high school physics that's only one part of the equation when it comes to drag, but it's still low....
Now I looked up some other cars. BMW M4 .34 Porsche 911 .3 Toyota Prius .26, even the current generation of BMW 3 coupe has a cd significantly higher than the car it replaced....what are the factors with this end result?
edit an engineer may know, what effect does something as simple as side mirrors have? The trend seems to be towards dumbo-earred mirrors, I'd be curious, same car, small mirror, large mirror, does the number budge? My LS is missing a deflector in front of the FR wheel, for kicks and for cheating the wind goodness, I'm planning on replacing it ($25 for a piece of plastic that resembles part of a mud flap)....
