This is where the Mustang lives and there is a defined market.
Now if its priced $65k -100k then sales will be tiny.
People want the Supra of old - meaning Turbo, Reliability and ability to tune it.
This electric / hybrid model will not sell as it sounds heavy and expensive.
Same with NSX - people wanted the original car recipe just newer and better.
Instead Honda delivered something nobody asked for at a price that current NSX fans dont want to spend and you see the sales figures.
Car makers tend to overthink sometimes - just follow recipe of cars like 911/Mustang - meaning stick to what made the car popular and listen to your existing customer base that bought / own those cars!

The Supra will not be a high volume car
ecpecting a $30k ish price for it is unrealistic
it will be a very nice a car and I look forward to seeing them on the road
the new NSX is really kind of low cost for what it is, an entry point to the exotic car world. It is starting to sell and numbers would be even better if the dealers didn't load them up with CF (about 1/3 of the new ones on cars.com have list prices above $200K).
those of us that have them have been thrilled with them

It should compete with Mustangs and Camaros. Toyota is missing out completely on this customer base composed of mostly young ppl.
At over $60k for a 2 seater type car, the market is limited and highly competitive. You got Corvette, Ftype, M4, C63 etc.
Im sure new NSX is great car but its not what most existing NSX owners wanted.

I agree that Acura did not come through for the Gen 1 NSX folks.
they built an easy to drive super car for older folks like me
the new NSX also gives them a way to hype their performance hybrid blah blah stuff in the rest of the line up
i continue to say that Toyota is not going to use the Supra badge to provide a cheapo ride, and I would guess $45k will be the pricing floor. Trying to play the volume game in the pony car space leads to a lot of discounting when bad weather/weak economic circumstances happen.

$45,000 in 1993 equals $76,564.06 in 2017.

If you want the same result of 6-8 year run then discontinued due to poor sales then fine let Toyota price it as high as they want.
The Mustang/Camaro market is HUGE and im fairly positive they would love a JDM alternative that is RWD, turbo and manual.

Its not unrealistic to have a base Supra with a 2.0 4cyl turbo at 30K and 6cyl turbo at high 30s to low 40s.
It should compete with Mustangs and Camaros. Toyota is missing out completely on this customer base composed of mostly young ppl.

I think a Supra should be 6 cylinder at least and priced in the 40's for 350-375hp and 50's for 450-475hp.
I think the NSX is mostly what existing NSX owners wanted, great looks, big power, mid engined, excellent performance, it is just priced too high for many of them. I am sure many would not mind if they offered a version that dropped the hybrid components and was much lighter and less expensive.

There should be no 4cyl Supra, no hybrid either. It never had one. If you want a 30K 4cyl performance car for young people from Toyota it should be a turbo Toyota 86.

Both are def not what current owners wanted.

Thanks RNM, I totally missed that the Genesis coupe went bye bye
it was dumb to have the sedan and coupe share the same name
maybe it's replacement will cover your ask as Toyota ain't doing it

What exotics/super cars these days still offer manuals? Can't even get one in a Ferrari or Lamborghini anymore. Can't get one in any McLaren's, Ford GT, Veyron, Chiron, Masserati, Pagani, Koenisegg, AMG, etc. People who actually buy super cars don't want or buy manuals anymore, they want the best transmission that makes the car the quickest and that is the DSG. Aside from NASCAR, race cars don't use manuals. There was criticism the first Gen NSX never offered a SMG or DSG, this time they offered one and from reviews it is a good one. Only Porsche is really offering a manual on 911's and the manual 911's are significantly slower then the DSG versions, the top line Porsche 918 is DSG only, no manual. It is a big waste of money to engineer a manual for a car like the NSX mainly for young car reviewers who drive it for a couple hours or mostly for people on the internet who say they want a manual but actually won't ever buy one because they will find something else to criticize the car about or it is really too expensive. A non hybrid light weight version may offer a manual but if it does not it won't really matter, the DSG would still be the most popular choice and be the highest performing version.
