When I put anything on top of my GX it gives me anxiety no matter how secure I think it is. I always fear causing an accident with it flying off.

I was on Georgia 400 running 80 mph or so and noticed the car in front of me braked and pulled right of the fast lane I was in....Hello 3 wheel scooter that fell off of someone's car

Whenever I hear of or see someone carrying a mattress on the roof of a car, I have this image of the front edge of the mattress blown back and up by the oncoming wind, and the mattress about to tear away from its tie-downs, to blow right into the windshield of the poor soul who is unlucky enough to follow that car.

That's probably one reason why so many people buy SUVs nowadays....to fit large objects like a mattress inside, where it is enclosed and protected.

Can you fit a king size and spring box in a SUV?

Not sure about a King-Size box-spring...though possibly (?), if it is tilted up sideways and the vehicle has a high enough length and a high enough roofline. A King-size mattress might (?) bend a little bit, making it a little easier than a box-spring. But, in general, that is one reason why King-Size bedding (and sometimes Queen-size) bedding is usually store-delivered to your house in large company (or contracted) trucks.

People stopping to offer assistance would only happen in Australia. Here is the US we would just grumble about the slowdown in traffic and pass them by.

Guy on the bike was lucky he didn't go over the handlebars. Also I think you'd be hard pressed to get even a double/full size matress in an SUV, even in something big like a Suburban.

I think that only the twin (single) mattress would fit in full-size SUVs, pickup trucks and minivans, considering that they are designed to fit the proverbial 4x8 (48in x 96in) sheet of plywood between the rear wheel wells.

Mattress sizes:

Twin (Single) Size Mattress
Width: 39 in x Length: 74 in

The twin size mattress would fit between the wheel wells of a full-size SUV, pickup truck and minivan but would likely be a tight squeeze in mid-size SUV / crossover. The mattress would be extending out past the rear bumper though, on anything except the longest full-size SUV or pickup truck.

Full (Double) Size Mattress
Width: 54 in x Length: 74 in

The full size mattress would probably fit ABOVE the wheel wells of a full-size pickup truck and may fit in a full-size SUV, like the Suburban.

Queen Size Mattress
Width: 60 in x Length: 80 in

The queen size mattress MAY fit, ABOVE the wheels wells of a full-size pickup truck but I am not sure about a full-size SUV, like the Suburban.

King Size Mattress
Width: 76 in x Length: 80 in

The king size mattress WON'T fit flat in a full-size pickup truck nor full-size SUV but would likely fit upright in a full-size, extra-high-roof van, like the MB Sprinter.

Cars with full size mattresses tied to the roof are not an uncommon sight.
