tesla offers a lot of interesting things and a pure rocket if you get the 90 or 100 trim, no doubt. however it doesn't really excel in handling and since it's so quiet it doesn't offer the same kind of excitement as driving other sports car. for 100k yes it's a perfect tool in wowing a lot of the people on the street though.
starting price is quite pointless

yes, the current telsa interior is really bland and the materials are pretty low grade. i hate to say but a lot of plastic and toyota (not lexus) type pieces.

considering a relatively loaded 550i NOW is already approaching 90k (similarly optioned as gsf), i don't think how it's possible for the next generation m550i to be cheaper than the gsf similarly loaded.

Unless you are doing Individual program or some other crazy custom color - there is no way you can get current 550i to 90k.

bottom line, getting a 550i to 90k without individual is very doable and i have seen them at dealerships. i know very well coz' i was deep into considering one.
no one know about the m550i for sure, but given inflation and how the current 550i is, i would be very interested to see how it can be priced under 90k for one with similar setup as the gsf

As demonstrated above, no way this M550 will be cheaper than the GSF. My guess is this will be priced more like the M5 and the next M5 will be more.

US Pricing was released for new 530i/xi and 540i/xi - only $600-1000 (1%) increase compared to 2016 model.
BMW 530i will be available for $51,200
BMW 530i xDrive model for $53,500
BMW 540i will be available for $56,450

M550i will not be in M5 price range at all.
This car is meant to compete with S6 which also starts in the $70s and will top out in the $90s.
Also the M550i has AWD standard which is important feature for many buyers looking for all year vehicle and 0-60 in less than 4seconds. Its very high on my list of next cars.

i wasn't even choosing all the options yet. on some of the packages there are stuff that the gsf doesn't have, but there are stuff like the brembo brakes that the 550 doesn't have (i don't have to list them). the car i built didn't even have 19" wheels. lexus standard leather is already better grade than regular bmw leather fwiw.

The other self driving crap options are not even offered on GSF and is pointless on performance car.
So that puts you in mid to high $70s just like I said.
Not to mention you put Individual option of Piano black trim ($1,000) and Carbon Fiber spoiler also $1,000.
BMW provides various Wood and Aluminum trims for free.
Same spoiler without CF would $300.

If its priced any higher than 90k, that's getting into 7 series territory. BMW has kind of shot themselves in the foot in regard to the 7 series. They've made the 5 almost as big as the 7 and it drives/rides about the same if you don't get the sport package, for a lot less $$$$

I can see it starting at over 80K. The current M5 starts at 94K.

But for some reason most of you feel the V8 model will increase in base price by over $12,000!!!!
The 2016 550xi with 445hp is $68,600. The new one will probably have a premium of $2-3,000 at most.
The M badge doesnt change the fact this is still a 550i with Msport pack not a true ///M car a la M5 that people will pay huge money for.
Same goes for M2 vs M240i/xi.
