Default thoughts on Bar's Leaks for heater core leak

should this stuff be avoided at all costs or is it worth a shot before replacing heater core? (older 2004 Nissan Frontier).

How hard is it to change out the heater core in that truck?(BTW a friend has a 2008 or 2009 Frontier, the heat quit working on it was the last straw in a long list of problems, traded it in on a new Tacoma)
