Granted this is in Australia and I don't live in Australia but fear and bias drumming stories like this just are annoying to hear.
We just had another terror attack in France and Turkey is possibly undergoing a military coup all in less than forty eight hours. You would think there are better things to report on than drumming up fear about a $41k USD rally car that most teenagers cannot afford.

some people just get upset when they see others having fun. considering how few of these Focus RS cars they will sell in the grand scheme of things, i can't believe anyone would seriously consider it a real safety threat to the public.

I respect your viewpoint here, but I don't see the relative merits of abrading the rubber off your rear tires, risking loss of control, and potentially doing something dangerous to be in the category of "having fun". I don't totally agree with the article's condemnation of drifting, if done in the right circumstances on a track designed for it (not on a public road)....but the article does raise some good points.

lol but seriously what's awesome about drifting (to me at least) as that you're essentially out of control yet in perfect control at the same time. really good drifters can keep a car going sideways all day, and i think it could genuinely be considered an art form.
yes people shouldn't be doing it on a public road, i guess, but people technically shouldn't be driving at all. idk it just bothers me how humans are capable of such great innovation, but are then told they shouldn't be able to live life. why not just ban everything at this point, why should anyone get to be the moral arbiter of what we should and should not do.

What always amazes me about the Japanese guys drifting is the cars they use. They are not easy to drive. Like that 240SX in that video, that car probably has a 2 liter 4 cylinder engine with a huge turbo making 300-400rwhp. Serious turbo lag, you can matt the throttle below 3500rpm, nothing, nothing, nothing then all the sudden the turbo spools and you get all 400hp at once at 4500rpm, redline is probably 6 to 7k. Its not like a V8 with massive amounts of torque down low and a very linear powerband, its either no power or all the power at once with that type of engine.
