Notable vehicle sales include the BMW 7 Series which increased 69.2 percent, the BMW 2 Series which increased 139.4 percent, and the BMW X3 which increased 69.5 percent.

“The mid-point to the year always brings some uncertainly about what may be ahead in the second half, so I’m very pleased to see several of our key models showing strong results in June,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The X1 and X3 are indicative of the still growing trend toward Sports Activity Vehicles, but the numbers also show that great cars like the BMW 7 Series and 2 Series have a strong appeal and following.”

After J.D. Power recognized the brand as the highest scoring nameplate in its 2016 Initial Quality Study (IQS) out of all 33 makes in the U.S., Kia Motors America’s (KMA) June sales jumped 15.6 percent over the same period last year to 62,572 vehicles, capping the greatest quarter and half-year performances in company history. The brand’s 5th monthly sales record in 6 months included best-ever June totals for the Forte family of compact cars as well as the Sportage and Sorento CUVs.

Kia’s year-to-date sales of 328,327 units was driven by a number of standout performances, including:
A 76.3 percent year-over-year increase for the Sportage compact CUV, highlighted by the best-ever single month total in May for Kia’s longest-running nameplate
Best-ever 1st half sales of the Forte compacts, including an all-time high of 10,406 units in March
Continued popularity for the Soul, with the iconic urban passenger vehicle on pace for increased sales for the 7th straight year
“No auto brand has experienced greater growth over the last 20 years than Kia, and J.D. Power’s IQS announcement boosted our momentum with huge increases in online and showroom traffic,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA. “By every measure, the ‘New Kia’ is an elite automaker and one of the industry’s greatest success stories.”

anyone thinking quality studies including jd power and consumer reports don't matter in the marketplace might want to think again. kia is scortching forward... have seen a couple of the new sportage on the road... very sharp. the front lights/grille are a bit odd, but overall shape is nice and the rear lights look really classy.

The Jeep brand is really keeping FCA afloat

It's only going to get better with a revised Compass and Patriot, new Wrangler, and large Grand Wagoneer on the horizon.

Default Subaru

Subaru of America, Inc. today reported record sales for June 2016 totaling 46,598 vehicles, a 5.1 percent gain over June 2015. The company also reported year-to-date sales of 279,458 vehicles, a 2.6 percent gain over the same period in 2015.

June marked the 28th consecutive month of 40,000+ vehicle sales for the company. Outback, WRX/STI and Crosstrek sales were notably strong as each carline achieved its best June ever.

“We can be very happy with our half-year performance which will set us up well for the second half of 2016,” said Jeff Walters, senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc. “To have set June records for Outback, WRX/STI and Crosstrek is a reflection of the continued strong demand for our products.”

“We are very pleased to have set another half-year record and to have reached our 55th consecutive month of yearly month-over-month sales increases,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and COO, Subaru of America, Inc. “With increased availability of Legacy and Outback models over the next 6 months of the year, we can expect that our sales will increase even more in the 2nd half of 2016.”

Default Tesla

Over the weekend, Tesla quietly released its sales figures for the 2nd quarter of 2016 and the results were somewhat disappointing. By the time the curtain closed on this year's second quarter, Tesla managed to sell 14,370 vehicles. And while this figure was higher than Tesla's sales figures during the same quarter a year-ago, the number fell short of the 17,000 figure Tesla initially projected.

Now what's particularly interesting is that Model S sales only checked in at 9,745 units. The last time sales of the Model S were that low was back in Q4 of 2014 when sales came in at 9,834 units. Obviously compensating for declining Model S sales is the Model X. Despite a number of widely reported quality control problems with Tesla's crossover SUV, the company last quarter sold 4,625 Model X vehicles, nearly double what it sold during the previous quarter when production truly begin to ramp up.

As to the decline, Tesla said that "5,150 customer-ordered vehicles were still in transit at the end of the quarter" and that these sales would be added to the company's Q3 tally.

In terms of overall production, Tesla produced 18,345 vehicles during the quarter, marking a 20% increase from the previous quarter. So even though sales from the 1st quarter to the 2nd quarter remained somewhat stagnant, it's encouraging to see that Tesla is in fact managing to increase production in a meaningful way. Remember, Tesla has boasted that it plans to produce 500,000 cars by 2020, an ambitious goal to say the least.

Looking ahead, Tesla remains optimistic about its production ramp up in the weeks and months ahead. The company's press release reads in part:
With continued productivity improvements, Tesla expects output to reach 2,200 vehicles per week in Q3 and 2,400 vehicles per week in Q4. Current order rate trends and backlog support production at those levels. In total, Tesla expects to produce and deliver about 50,000 vehicles during the second half of 2016, approximately equal to all of 2015.
That's quite a boastful promise and it'll be interesting to see if Tesla can actually follow through over the next 6 months.

Numbers aside, Tesla recently made headlines when a Model S with Autopilot engaged crashed into a tractor-trailer, tragically killing the driver in the process. Following the accident, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) said it planning to initiate an investigation and that the accident called "for an examination of the design and performance of any driving aids in use at the time of the crash.”

Yes, my brother has a year-old Sportage and just loves it. IMO, it is built with better materials and solidness, right from the factory, than the RAV-4, though, in the long run, Toyota probably makes longer-lasting drivetrains. The Optima's construction solidness and quality, compared to its competition, is also quite impressive.

Why does Honda continue to list the Acura ZDX on their chart? That abomination hasn't been in production since 2013...
