Audi Takes #1 in Consumer Reports Reliability/Performance Ranking
I really dislike this "overall score" ranking of Consumer Reports. Why can't they just list the road test and reliability scores as they are and let consumers decide which score weighs more in their minds?
Below is the complete ranking with reliability ratings included, taken from the official site. As can be seen Lexus and Toyota manage the best reliability scores despite lousy road test scores. You simply do not average the scores together and call it an overall score as they don't necessarily carry the same weight for everyone.
By the way I think it's really alarming that even Hyundai and Kia are beating Lexus in road tests. Lexus really needs to stop cheapening out and start seriously upping its game.

it says cadillac rates as 'worst' in reliability, worse than chrysler and dodge. really?
anyway, still love my jeep.
Consumer Reports doesn't just do reliability surveys you know.. They do road tests too.

The only two cars ever to earn a score of 99 out of 100 from Consumer Reports' road tests are the LS460 and the Model S, by the way.

That blank check (write your own numbers) left by Audi did good for them. The gasoline versions are below average while the diesel version....well we all know how that mess is. There is NO way Audi as a whole should rank highest on anyone's list without considering their messy cheat.
Buick always ranks highest for the domestics because a high number of these are driven by older folks who put little to no miles on their Buick's, they also take great care of their vehicles for the most part and don't abuse them as say Scion buyers do.
Lets rank Audi high so everyone forgets their cheat.
Consumer reports sold their soul for $$$$$

I don't think anything was rigged to make people forget about the diesel scandal. Audi reliability has been on the rise for many years. Although to think they rank above Lexus is kinda hard to swallow. As Mike mentioned, I bet next year's ratings will drop, as there's usually a 6 month lag time for recalls and fiascos to make themselves known in surveys.
I agree with the comment about Buick. I've been saying for about a dozen years now, they rank higher due to the older demographic who are far less demanding overall and less able to hear squeaks and rattles.

The ranking is about "overall" scores, an average of road test scores and reliability ratings, not just reliability.
Lexus and Toyota remain the best and better than Audi in reliability, but are simply too much behind in road tests to rank higher in overall scores.

I suspect what is dragging Jeep down at the bottom are the unimpressive Compass/Patriot, which still have a lot of the old slipshod Chrysler workmanship and design in them, and the newer Renegade, which is a redone Fiat 500X with a different body/interior. I was not impressed at all with the Renegade I reviewed...IMO it was cheap and flimsy inside and out. The Fiat 500L (which is a lower-stance, FWD 500X), also was not very well-built.
The only column that really concerns me is "predicted reliability" and Lexus still tops that. Meshing driving dynamics and other criteria into an overall composite doesn't necessarily tell the story one person may be interested in.
Driving dynamics? Eh, from my perspective, reliability trumps that every day of the week and then some. I mean, they all drive nice, but is anyone going to actually push these cars in day-to-day driving enough to actually make that part matter enough over reliability? Maybe, but not me, ever.

cr's influence on consumers must be limited as jeep sales continue to soar.

Their reliability level is both substantially below Buick.
