The writing's on the wall though. This show is only kept alive now by hubris on BBC's part.

 

The last two episodes have been excellent - the old trio have not been missed. In some ways, with the wider variety of presenters it reminds me of original Top Gear but with far better production values.

 

Spent the weekend with the family that loves Top Gear but isn't in to cars I mentioned before. They've tried to watch all three episodes and turned them off after 10 minutes.

 

Do you speak for everybody? I miss the old cast and don't really care for the new one, many people feel the same way. I don't think it reminds me of the original Top Gear at all, the original Top Gear was pretty dry and much more about just cars kind of like the older 5th Gear.

 

I guess the divide is between people who want a car show like 5th Gear and those who want a comedy show with cars, like the Clarksonian Top Gear. Can't satisfy both.

However, those people I do speak to, and who have watched the new programme say that, after a shaky start, it's getting better each week. We're lucky because if the old team's new venture for Amazon is any good we'll be getting two decent car programmes.

 

This is exactly it. What you'll see in the ratings is that the enormous worldwide popularity of TopGear is due to it being a comedy show with cars. So however good the new TopGear gets, you won't see the same huge popularity.

I know that the latest ratings were the lowest ever for Clarksonian era TopGear...

Based on what I've read it sounds like Evans is really the sore thumb. He doesn't get along w/ the rest of the cast and even chided the audience once.

I don't understand why so many people want the new Top Gear to fail (not talking about any posters here, just in general). Clarkson deserved to be fired. He, May, and Hammond will have their own show which will be excellent as expected. If the new Top Gear turns out good then that's awesome we will all have 2 good car shows to watch.

 

Gotta love celebrity egos.

 

i don't think a lot of people want it to fail, but i think a lot of people are afraid that it will fail with the direction it is going
