Lightbulb Chevy Debuts FNR Concept at Shanghai

OK, this isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, unless you have a dragonfly in yours, but here goes: Presenting the Chevrolet FNR Concept.

It's never going to make it to production, this is just an attention-getting CONCEPT designed to draw visitors to the exhibit, but it does incorporate some styling cues that will probably see their way into Chevys over the next few years. Toned down, of course for the real world . . . .

Don't expect the blade fenders, the "dragonfly" doors, or even the electric wheel motors running on "hubless" wheels with the suspension exposed inside the wheel. There isn't much about this vehicle that could be licensed for sale in the US . . . you can start your own list of features you'll never see on the road.

Using "gesture" controls it can be switched to "autonomous" mode as the front seats swivel to face the rear - turning the vehicle into a lounge car, but more likely turning the driver mercifully away from the view of oncoming traffic while "Johnny Cab" takes the wheel - or lack of "wheel" you may note from the photos. GPS refined by a traffic radar in the roof does the navigating/driving while you relax and have a drink with friends. I think I'd need that drink, considering . . .

But it's just a set of ideas rendered in vapor - maybe they'll have a physical model on the show floor to grab attention. It ought to do that pretty well.

Oh, and if you're planning to "borrow" one of these on the street, you don't need keys or even a wireless fob. It's accessed by an iris scan. You can never have too much tech.
