Both U Connect and iDrive seem to be considered among the best systems right now.

anyway, congrats on the x6m - awesome!

i'm fine with my lowly jgc summit. i overheard some people today saying "who owns that jeep outside, wow that's nice!"
iDrive is certainly no longer the same iDrive as first gen, much like current GC is no longer the GC of old. I've actually owned a BMW with every generation of iDrive, and the first gen was utter garbage, but starting with 2nd gen they are nothing but awesome, and getting better and better.

Jeeps uConnect might be functional, but that screen placement and touch screen are simply outdated by a decade.

Remember the JGC is the basic vehicle that came out in 2010 as a 2011, so it is 7 years old. I wouldn't consider the touchscreen outdated, it's simply one way of doing things. My Kia has a touchscreen, the new Pacifica minivan has a touchscreen and it's all new. Lots of brand new designs still have touchscreens.

I find U-connect to be FAR easier to use than the **** systems BMW, Audi and Benz use. I'm sure with more familiarity I'd say the Germans way of doing things with the **** would become second nature. As far as the U-connect Chyrsler interface vs other touchscreens offered by GM(the ones used by Chevy, Buick, GMC are quite good, Cadilllac's CUE is garbage), Ford, Toyota, Honda and Lexus, I'd say its the easiest/best to use.

BMW iDrive is very good and easy to use, after a while it's second nature to operate.
and now the new iDrive also has touch screen, so you can use whichever way you prefer,
though I hate to have finger prints on the screen.

And in the new 7 series, you also get idrive menu projected on the HUD, so you can control it with steering wheel controls.

Yes, but it doesn't limit you to the touch screen. Touchscreen is enabled in all BMW models that have newest generation of iDrive, but the screen is not placed down in the middle of center console ala 2007, and its just one of the many control methods.

i used idrive on my brother's new (at the time) z4 a year ago, and it was awful, but maybe i'd get used to it. debatable if the lexus remote touch is worse or better.

and my lowly jeep with 'outdated' touchscreen has 22 buttons on the steering wheel plus voice control too.

My wife and I drove a 17 Pacifica Minivan today with the newest version of the touchscreen UConnect. I think it's excellent.
