Perhaps this may not change your view of the latest Explorer, but the original 1Gen ones, IMO, had a higher, longer, more boat-like hood in front than newer ones
perhaps you haven't seen older and new side by side. new one is MUCH bigger / higher.

Exactly. We had that first generation Explorer as well as the 95 refresh model and the new Explorer is MUCH, MUCH bigger. The Explorer was never a big vehicle. I agree with bit, it feels huge from behind the wheel too.
As for two tone paint? Styles change. They should bring bell bottoms and mullets back too?

(Also, IMO, it would be nice to bring the two-tones back. That's another way most auto manufacturers, in recent years, have cheapened out paint-jobs)
I don't think the lack of two tone paint jobs is a sign of cost cutting. It's probably because not enough people would buy them.
We had a 2013 Sport. Needless to say, it was an impulse buy. Talk about build quality issues. Rear door at the bottom corner didn't line up with the body. Seals around the windows outside looked like crap. And the smart key was glitchy. On top of that the driving experience was numb. Numb steering and numb feedback from the throttle. I couldn't stand the seating position. The seat was awkward and the steeringwheel is aimed at the sky. Like a bus lol also fords BSM is useless. It's this tiny dot in the mirror that you can hardly see.
