Just like how they are swapping V8s into Fisker Karma now. Good chassis and body, crappy drivetrain.
are they now?

That make so much sense, the V10 M5 and M6 have a really ugly Bangle body and interior............now is worth very little.

i8 have beautiful body and interior, with a lawn mower engine.

Combine the 2, very sick DIY M8 that BMW wish they can build

That's what I would do if I am a BMW fanboy with good fab skills, buy a low mileage beat up V10 M6 now for $25k, an i8 with dead batteries should only worth $10k, less then 10 years from now. Less then $50k total for a V10 BMW exotic with butterfly doors!

Default BMW: i8 sold out, i3 records 10k orders

BMW: i8 sold out, i3 records 10k orders

Just in case anyone was wondering how plug-in BMW cars would be received, the answer is apparently "quite well." After speaking with BMW's global sales chief last week at the LA Auto Show, Reuters has learned that the plug-in hybrid i8 sports coupe is already sold out for its first year on the market.

There is no word as to how many i8s BMW sold, but the first example was delivered to a customer last week in Germany. As for the all-electric/range-extended i3 hatchback, the automaker has received more than 10,000 orders for this model before it even goes on sale. Likewise, we don't know how many BMW plans to sell, but we do know they'll be showing up in the US before next summer.

Except it has 2 motors, 1 engine, and 2 transmissions, with separate drivetrains driving separate axles. So, a swap is impossible in this chassis. Doing so would require modifying it so heavily you couldn't call it a BMW any longer.

No surprise there - America isn't the target market for this. I'm sure huge tax savings will be had for many buyers.

With this BMW TV series you can get a closer look at the BMW i8. This time you can get more information about the material carbon, that is used for the BMW i8.

Join evo's Harry Metcalfe at an exclusive winter test of next year's BMW i8 performance hybrid Porsche 911 rival.

The £100,000 BMW i8 is a plug-in performance hybrid due to be revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt show in September. evo was invited to drive a pre-production i8 at a secret test track in France this month, six months before we can drive the production version. This video gives a taste of what this revolutionary 155mph performance car is like to drive.

While filming an upcoming episode of The Smoking Tire, we found a BMW i8 Prototype Testing! It makes nice sounds on full-throttle acceleration!

I'm been reading that a M8 will be based on the i8 but with either a V8 or V10.
