It's just mid-cycle freshening. Diesel is now available, tweaked front end. BMW isn't one for dramatic mid cycle facelifts...if you want the ultimate in subtle updates look at the the last-gen 5-series. Very hard to tell the difference between a pre-2008 5-series and post.

The pursuit of F
Interiors of BMWs have much improved in the latest generations and I have to give the nod to BMW on a polished X3 interior. I particularly like the fact that the backlighting in the gauges and controls appears to be a soft white versus the harsh (and cold) red of the past.
I can't get over the boxy looking front end and the price of admission is in the mid-size RX range. I do like the rear end and compact dimensions (183 " length).

You mean the car with the frumpy-looking rear?
Actually, I'm not sure why anyone would choose that over this facelifted X3. In fact, the entire Gran Turismo line from BMW has a rear-end that looks like someone with down syndrome.
P.S.
Strangely though, the X6 is also not off-the-hook on this one....yet surprisingly it looks well executed.

Based on that list, there's only one 2WD variant for the current X3:
sDrive18d
For Europe only I think (and parts of Asia)
