Default 2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Rendered and Filmed

Mercedes' W205 series C-Class is set to bloom with at least two new AMG models within the next 12 months, including the tamer 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 C450 AMG Sport and the 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 C63 AMG that will spawn an even wilder Black Series Edition as well.

Artist Wild Speed rendered the next C63 AMG sedan for Road Mag using existing spy shots and styling cues from the current E63 AMG, while YouTuber TouriClips is adding to our knowledge about Stuttgart's BMW M3 rival with a video of two prototypes of the car battling it out on the Nürburgring.

The C63 AMG's 4.0-liter twin-turbo unit that replaces the current model's naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 is expected to deliver more than 450hp even in its base configuration giving it the power-edge over the new M3.

Reports still aren't using the C55 AMG moniker. Think MBZ is sticking with 63 AMG?

Power edge over the M3 sure. Question is will this C handle better? Last gen M3 won hands down but the later C63's had some great improvements

Absolutely. I never had any thought they would go backwards. Why would they choose C55 anyways?

Its gonna be a 63 from a marketing perspective. The days where numbers signify displacement are long gone.

People think bigger number = more power

So when the number shrinks they think power is down. Its stupid I know, but than again so are most people.

I wouldn't call it backwards. Seeing as how the 6.2 is being phased out and the new AMG 63's are using the Bi-Turbo 5.5 with the same name. It makes more sense to use C55 AMG for the new 4.0T and pays homage to the C43 and C55 AMG's of past too.

Sad but true.

From a marketing perspective, it would definitely look like you're going backwards. Realistically, with so few people remembering the C36, C43, and C55 even existed I'd rather them keep the C63 moniker as-is. People hear it and instantly know its an AMG. I expect the next SLK to follow suit.

Yes, logic would make it a C40, but hey, what are ya gonna do

Default 2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG sedan and estate to be revealed on September 24 - report

Sedan deliveries to start next February, wagon in April

A new report coming out from Germany says Mercedes-Benz will unveil the highly anticipated C63 AMG on September 24.

The wait is about to end as we are just a few months away from the C63 AMG's unveiling allegedly set for September 24 when Mercedes-Benz will publish the first photos. Shortly after that, the model will be introduced at the Paris Motor Show in early October when the company will open up the order books.

Both sedan and wagon versions will be revealed, with deliveries programmed to kick off in February and April, respectively. The report mentions the new C63 AMGs will also be offered in a slightly more powerful S-Model derivative just like their larger E-Class brother.

The all-new C63 AMG lineup will be powered by a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine taken from the upcoming AMG GT. Codenamed M178, the motor meets Euro 6 emissions standards and will develop 510 PS (375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) in the AMG GT but Mercedes-Benz will probably offer a detuned version in the C63 AMGs with around 480 PS (353 kW) in the standard variant and a little bit more in the aforementioned S-Model.

Default 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class restyled by Carlsson

Engine upgrades in the pipeline

After working on the facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Carlsson has turned its attention towards the 2014 C-Class.

Some people have criticized Mercedes-Benz for designing the all-new C-Class like a mini S-Class and now Carlsson is addressing this issue with a complete exterior makeover. Changes start at the front where the tuner installed a different front bumper equipped with side air intakes and a spoiler lip that can be optionally had in carbon fiber. The redesigned front grille features a single chrome horizontal bar with the tuner's logo and is also available with an electro-polished stainless steel mesh that can be had for the lower intakes as well.

Moving at the back, Carlsson mounted a boot lid spoiler along with chrome tailpipe surrounds built into the rear valance. The tuner is also offering 30mm lowered sport springs, beefier side skirts along with a choice of 18- to 20-inch alloy wheels available in various finishes like titanium, graphite and diamond.

Changes continue on the inside with velour floor mats, wood and carbon fiber inserts, illuminated door sill scuff plates, alloy pedals and various types of leather upholstery.

Matching these visual enhancements will be a wide array of power upgrades that are currently in the works at Carlsson's headquarters in Merzig, Germany.

Default Mercedes-Benz Starts C-Class Production At Alabama Plant

Mercedes-Benz on Wednesday started production of the 2015 C-Class at its plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the same site where it builds the M-, R- (for Chinese market only) and GL-Class models. It was first confirmed that the Tuscaloosa plant would start C-Class production as far back as 2009, and now the first cars are rolling off the line, four months after production of the latest-generation C-Class started in Germany. Mercedes will eventually add C-Class production at sites in Brazil, China and South Africa.

The addition of C-Class production at the Tuscaloosa plant is just the first step in Mercedes’ long-term goal to significantly boost production in North America. Next year, production of another Mercedes model will start in Tuscaloosa, a new crossover with coupe-like styling likely to be called the M-Class Coupe. We should also eventually see production of the next GLK-Class at the Tuscaloosa plant, as this model will be closely linked with the new C-Class.

According to Reuters, Mercedes is hoping to catch up with rival automaker BMW, which recently said it plans to increase production at its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina by 50 percent to 450,000 cars by 2016. Mercedes’ Tuscaloosa plant is currently churning out about 185,000 cars per year.

It’s possible Mercedes could also eventually start production of compact cars at a Nissan plant in Mexico tooled to produce some Infiniti models. As Infiniti is using a Mercedes platform for its future compact cars, production facilities could potentially be shared.

"With the successful start of production at the Tuscaloosa plant, we are expanding our C-Class capacities and are ready for the market launch in the U.S. and Canada in the fall,” Mercedes board member for production Markus Schäfer said in a statement. “For the first time, the C-Class is manufactured also in Tuscaloosa—the team has done an excellent job in mastering this challenge."

The C-Class will initially go on sale in C300 and C400 trim, and with standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Rear-wheel-drive models will be offered at a later date, including in high-performance C63 AMG flavor. For our first drive report on the 2015 Mercedes C-Class, click here.
