To have a 2900mm wheelbase
The long-wheelbase 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been spied in China, prior to its official launch in less than two weeks at Beijing Motor Show.
Last month we saw a C180 L wrapped around in white camouflage and now we take a look at a C260 L equipped with the AMG Line kit. The vehicle spotted here is virtually undisguised as it only has some white tape on the headlights, taillights and grille.
The C-Class L version has a 2900mm wheelbase which makes it 60mm longer compared to the regular 2014 C-Class (W205). Rear passengers will benefit from additional leg room as a result of the stretched wheelbase.
Set to make it official debut on April 20 at the Beijing Motor Show, the C-Class L will go on sale in the second half of the year and will have to compete with the Audi A4L, BMW 3Li and Volvo S60L. This is the first time Mercedes-Benz is building a long-wheelbase C-Class and production will take place in China at the Beijing-Benz joint venture.

Arriving later this year
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate has been spied once again, this time parked on a narrow street somewhere in southern Europe.
The C-Class wagon is slowly but surely losing all of its camouflage as we get close to the model's official launch likely to occur in October at the Paris Motor Show, but expect images to be published online sooner than that. Seen here is a prototype wearing disguise only at the back where it's hiding the bigger and wider horizontal taillights derived from the E-Class Estate.
The model's slightly increased size should bump cargo capacity compared to the previous variant which offered between 485 and 1,500 liters. It looks more appealing than its predecessor with its mini S-Class look, a more sloped roofline and a prominent roof-mounted spoiler.
C-Class sedan's vast engine lineup will be carried over onto the more practical wagon, including the twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine which will power the range-topping C63 AMG derivative where it will develop an estimated 480 bhp (358 kW).

Conceived specifically for the Chinese market, the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Long appropriately made its world at the Beijing Auto Show and will soon go on sale in the Middle Kingdom to fight the LWB versions of the Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series.
Stuttgart's designers seem to have done a good job hiding the car's 80mm (3.15 inches) longer wheelbase (2,920mm or 115 inches) that extends the new C-Class' overall length to 4,766 mm (187.7 inches), with all additional space benefitting passengers siting in the rear.
Mercedes says that since the C-Class Long will be used "largely as a chauffeured limousine," the front seat can be adjusted electrically from the rear passenger area.
The China market-only C-Class Long will be offered with a number of engines ranging in output from 154hp (156PS) to 362hp (367PS) and in two trim grades, 'Sedan' and 'Sport Sedan', with the former bearing the classic grille with the Mercedes star on the hood and the latter featuring a grille with the central star and an AMG aerodynamic styling package.

Features a wheelbase that has been stretched 80mm
Mercedes has taken the wraps off the C-Class L at the Beijing Motor Show.
Designed exclusively for Chinese customers, the C-Class L measures 4766mm long and has a wheelbase that has been stretched 80mm to 2920mm. The additional length benefits rear seat passengers who will now enjoy best-in-class rear seat legroom.
Since model is typically driven by a chauffeur, Mercedes spruced up the rear passenger compartment with privacy glass and controls which can electrically adjust the front passenger seat.
Detailed specifications were not released, but the company says the model can be equipped with a variety of engines that have outputs ranging from 156 PS (115 kW) to 367 PS (270 kW).

With 367 bhp V6
Mercedes-Benz is allegedly working on a C450 AMG Sport model for next year to slot just below the upcoming C63 AMG.
British media is reporting Mercedes-Benz will add a C-Class derivative in 2015 that will be positioned above the C400 and below the hot C63 AMG. The vehicle will be motivated by an updated V6 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine delivering 367 bhp (274 kW), up from the previous 333 bhp (248 kW).
This won't be a fully-fledged AMG model but Mercedes-Benz is working with the engineers from Affalterbach and will offer the model with both RWD and 4MATIC, as opposed to the range-topping C63 AMG which will be rear-wheel drive only. At this moment it's not known whether the C450 AMG Sport will be available only as a sedan or it will be offered for all upcoming body styles as in the case of the C63 AMG which will be sold as a wagon, coupe and cabrio.

Will Lexus bring a future IS that will be able to compete?

Want to get your hands on a new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but find the existing range-topping C400 too pedestrian and can't stretch to (or wait for) the upcoming new C63 AMG? We've got some good news for you, friend.
The latest word from Stuttgart has it that Mercedes is planning to bridge the gap with a new C450 Sport. Though not a full-on AMG model, it is said to benefit from the input of the engineers in Affalterbach. Power is tipped to come from the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 as the C400, but instead of 329 horsepower, it would offer more like 367.
The model would likely be offered in either rear-drive or rear-biased 4Matic all-wheel drive, but the smart money is on MBUSA only offering the latter in North America. You could, of course, expect to pay a premium over the as-yet unconfirmed price of the C400 – a good three grand or more considering the difference between the outgoing C300 and C350.
Considering that you could probably get the same boost out of an aftermarket ECU remap, though, Benz will need to offer a little extra in the form of upgraded rolling stock, suspension and trim to set it apart. The AMG Line exterior trim package pictured above would probably be a good place to start...
