A quote in the latest issue of Road & Track's performance car of the year article said the exact same thing as I was trying to say 
"138 MPH in the GT-R felt like unlocking an xbox achievement. In the Ferrari F12, it was the climax of a Michael Bay film."
Many cars can go around a track at the same lap time, but the sensation/excitement level can be night and day.
