Another great feature of the CT 200h is the mpg. I was in Las Vegas last week for the SEMA show and met up with Mike. He's been in my car twice (two different occasions), rode in the front passenger seat and the rear passenger seat and he fit right in. (Mike is about 6'5" tall). I usually get about 43 mpg but the gas in Vegas probably doesn't have all the additional additives like CA has and I was getting 52 mpg. My girlfriend also stated to me that she was able to get 60 mpg once (she's tiny, 5' and about 105lbs.)

Sure the CT could use more horsepower, what car couldn't use more power? Even the Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse got a bump in hp compare to the Bugatti Veyron. I would love to see a CT 300h F-Sport...

I've been driving my CT around the city and I think it does its job and its super efficient.

 

I bet if they actually do CT300h for next generation, it will have less 10% of sales but it may satisfy magazines and forum warriors.

Then again, we will see what next Prius brings... some powertrain improvements could easily get us 10-20hp more, which would make it feel faster than Today... add some weight improvements, and they could show 1s off 0-60 pretty easily.

 

and that IS it's job - to be super efficient (and reliable)....if it's not fast enough for you, get something else.

 

I have a CT200h since 2012 and think its a really good car and fast enough for city driving. But I would really like to see a Ct200t with a proper gearbox ( man/auto ) instead of a CT300h. This chassi is capable of so much more than just being stuck in traffic jams and could be really funny as a GTI car. This would also be a good way to make more distance to the Prius aura surrounding it today.

I dont care about "Prius" stigma, since I love Prius powertrain... next gen with 150hp with 5% in weight saving I think would satisfy 98% of the population.

 

Absolutely needs more power. I think a honda fit is faster lol

And plug-in as an option with (much) better batteries would be great. I dont get why they as the only manufacturer use the outdated NiMh system. The primary power source in city driving should be batteries in a small 2015-16 hybrid car.

 

well, it does not work that way. Actually all Toyota systems are dual electric motors, have a lot more power than the batteries can output. Most of competition uses single motor systems.

Since plugins sells in tiny numbers, they dont have that option.

So the problem here is having enough battery output to power the motors. And then the problem is recovering that much power so you have it in your battery so that you can power the motors.

lion batteries dont change anything... they are a little bit lighter (25kg) but also less reliable long term.

They could increase output by some 10hp more possibly. Much more than that can not be recovered via brakes, so you would see fluctuations in power when your battery is full or empty. For instance, like in all those European sport PHEVs that promise a lot, but only can deliver it while car is charged. Out of PHEV battery, they lose a lot of performance.

 

Would love to have a CT300h if they came out with one. I was on the fence on getting a CT200h, but was a bit disappointed when it came to performance. The ES300h (I know, not comparable in price) has a lot more power, and it still gets a decent 40-41mpg combined vs the CT200h's 42. I drove the Prius for a while, and I thought it was already slow. A CT with a bit more weight probably wouldn't satisfy me. Having more power means I won't have to gun it as hard either.

 

My issue is not the expected marginal performance out of a detuned 1.8L I4, and paired with electric motors for 134 total system hp (gets good mileage after all), its the super strained and unrefined nature of this engine that irks me. Something slightly larger would would be better, at least optional.

 

Maybe Lexus should bring in a CT 200t...a two variant line would work. The CT has been around now for 5 model years (2011-2015). I'm curious when the 2CT will arrive...
