50k is not market penetration at all. Now I'm confused is this a RX or NX competitor?
The NX should be 35k-45k but even at 50k a Lexus can command that price. Lincoln needs to really think market penetration pricing to get some buyers and shock the segment.

no idea why lincoln let that 'engineer' talk to that reviewer.
paddle shifters and a boring 4 banger in a cushy small utility vehicle is the new 'luxury'.
it's a nice vehicle, with zero passion.

Problem for Lincoln is that at that price, the NX and competition can be had with a true luxury badge and panache. This is an important buying factor for people who will dish out 50 large, and unfortunately the Lincoln brand still falls short in this regard. This vehicle should have been priced 5K less throughout its lineup, i.e. 32-45K, IMO.

of course that 50k is msrp thus leaving lots of padding to discount and incent the snot out of it.

Even a "fully loaded" Jeep Cherokee (not Grand Cherokee) MSRP can crest $40K with every single bell and whistle, but the number of those at dealers is going to be extremely rare.
I wholeheartedly agree that Lincoln even, at parity with segment averages in the upper 30's and low 40's may not be able to command that price. It will likely lead to a lot of incentives, which will further dilute brand value.
They should have taken a methodical and gradual pricing approach.
The same can be said for Cadillac who launched the CTS with pricing basically on par with the Germans from the get go. Yes the new CTS is a great vehicle, but Cadillac needs to pace itself when it comes to pricing.

But Lincoln willingly admits that the fully loaded $50K variant will not be their volume leader and that typically equipped most will be in the upper 30's/Lower 40's, which is about right for the segment.

Which wont be good for their sales, just like MKZ didnt do much despite all the hype from forums and blogs.

MKZ sold roughly 40% less than ES. And thats before those crazy MPG ratings got adjusted and probably with big discounts.

they sold 8.8k cars in May... a lot more than before, but half of what they used to sell 10 years ago... Of course your sales go up when you get new product in, but problem is what happens in a year...

In any case, I wish them well. The competition is good for both consumers and manufacturers.

Have any of you CL members had a chance to drive an MKC? Dealerships here in the D.C. area have had them on order for weeks, but Lincoln is taking its time actually getting them to market. Since there is an obvious delay, I hope it is for a constructive reason.....say, a quality-control adjustment on the assembly line if they found a problem or a defect. At the D.C. auto show in January, the Lincoln reps originally said an April 30 introduction date. I wanted to use an MKC test-drive for the $50 Mastercard that Ford signs people up for at the shows for test-driving. But the card-deadline was March 30,and I used it for an MDX review instead......a vehicle I was not very impressed with.
