Christian von Koenigsegg explains how his team has developed the new Koenigsegg One:1 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine which produces 1,360 hp and 1,371 N·m (1,011 lb·ft) of torque at 6000 rpm.Total weight of the engine is only 197 kg (434 lb) thanks to a carbon fiber intake manifold and the aluminum construction. The transmission is a 7-speed dual clutch with paddle shifters.

One of the most disputed topics in the industry: Is it possible to make high performance carbon fiber wheels? Christian von Koenigsegg explains that it's not only possible, but his company has been doing it for a few years now. Take a look at how.

http://www.youwheel.com/2014/04/22/1...efore-release/

5 of the 6 cars sold to china? umm....

16-MILLION-DOLLAR KOENIGSEGG SOLD OUT BEFORE RELEASE

The 2014 Koenigsegg One:1 will be a limited edition hypercar: only 6 units will be produced.

The One:1 is powered by a 5.0L turbo V8 engine which ouputs 1,340hp and 738 lb-ft of torque (the overboost feature can reach 1011 lb-ft temporarily). The reason why this “tiny” V8 can produce such large amount of energy is because its super-high boost pressure of 26.1 psi . Of course, unless Koenigsegg programs the ECU to keep the turbine rotating all the time, high pressure boost will definitely lead to turbo lag.

However, what surprises us most is not the horsepower number of the One:1 engine, because everyone knows, as long as you are willing to raise the turbo boost pressure, you can attain whatever hp you want. We are amazed at its MSRP and how fast it is sold out.

This 6-unit only production car is already completely sold out. Five of them are sold to Chinese buyers, and the other one is sold to an US customer. In China, the MSRP of this car is around RMB 100,000,000 (0.1 billion RMB), which is equivalent to approx. USD 16,000,000 (16 million USD).

You may consider this price to be absurdly high; but from my point of view, the 16 million USD price tag is still a bargin.

For an automaker, the cost to develop a new car model starts at around USD 1 billion. If you are developing a new platform, plus a new engine and transmission, the price tag will reach the level as high as USD 6 billion. So basically speaking for every car you see on the street, the developement cost is between USD 1 billion to 6 billion. Now a simple calculation will tell you if only 6 units are made for a model, what is the average developement cost burden on each unit. Take the lowest 1 billion for example: USD 1 billion divided by 6 equals USD 166,666,667 (167 million USD).

You see, the Koenigsegg is still ten times CHEAPER than the above calculated average cost (167 million). Yes I know because the One:1 is not a massively produced model and Koenigsegg can borrow some parts/design with other models, or outsources some parts to other suppliers to save cost, but the scale of the price is still low with those factors taken into consideration.

The reason why you can buy a Hyundai Sonata for less than $20k is not because there is no technology in the design of this car; it is because Hyundai chooses to massively produce it. If someday Hyundai want to produce a 6-unit only production car, it can also reasonably command a high MSRP like what Koenigsegg is doing right now.

Below are live photos of the hypercar taken at the Beijing auto show, which is an ongoing event now.

Christian von Koenigsegg showcases the One:1's patented variable turbo, providing the perfect boost for any RPM level.

Fully 3D printed, with moving parts printed within the enclosed chamber, something never done before.

Default Koenigsegg One:1 detailed on video at Goodwood

"World's first megacar"

The Koenigsegg One:1 is the star of a video taken at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

So far Koenigsegg has built only two units of the One:1 and both of them are at Goodwood to the delight of the audience. Billed as the "world's first megacar", the One:1 weighs 1,360 kg (all fluids, 50 percent fuel) and offers 1,360 PS (1,000 kW) from its uprated aluminum twin-turbo V8 5.0-liter engine sourced from the Agera R and further tweaked to generate a whopping 1,371 Nm (1,011 lb-ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm.

Power of the engine - which takes three weeks to build - is channeled to the carbon fiber wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox developed specifically for this model which grants the One:1 with a 0-248.5 mph (0-400 km/h) run in only 20 seconds onto an estimated (and simulated) top speed of more than 273 mph (440 km/h).

Only six customer cars are being built and obviously all of them have already been sold at a rumored price tag of 2M USD.

Default Koenigsegg gunning for Nurburgring lap record

Keep Calm and Deploy 1341 Horsepower: Koenigsegg Puts Nürburgring Production-Car Lap Record in Its Crosshairs

These days, automakers’ marketing departments are even more fascinated by the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife than their colleagues in engineering. For a while it seemed as if the Porsche 918’s heavily publicized 6:57 lap, set last year, might have settled the issue of how fast a road car could go around what Jackie Stewart once described as the Green Hell. When McLaren said the P1 had also dipped below seven minutes, but refused to give any further details, Porsche’s record started to look almost safe.

But now Koenigsegg is planning to make a serious attempt to go faster next year, with the Swedish hypercar maker confident that both the Agera R and the One:1 will be able to post better times. In the case of the One:1, insiders assure us, “a very significant chunk” could be taken out of the 918’s time.

“When we look at the sector times, we’re already on course for a record,” company founder Christian von Koenigsegg told us during a recent visit to the firm’s Ängelholm factory. “I hate the need to do it, but this is one of the ways you prove yourself in this part of the market.”

The carmaker has already done extensive testing at the Nürburgring, with its determination to explore the limits demonstrated by a crash earlier this year. The official plan is to return in 2015 to try to set an accepted record, first in the Agera R—and then in the even quicker One:1.

On paper, it is possible. The Agera R outguns the 918 by a comfortable margin thanks to the combination of a 1124-hp twin-turbocharged V-8 and a 3160-pound curb weight—that’s 237 horsepower more and 560 pounds less than the hybrid Porsche. And although Koenigsegg’s engineering resources look tiny next to Porsche’s, the company’s test driver—Robert Serwanski—told us that the Agera R was reaching a peak of 250 mph on the Nordschleife’s Döttinger Höhe straightaway during testing. “And remember,” he added, “the Agera is 100 kilograms [220 pounds] heavier than the One:1, has half the downforce, and less power.”

A Nordschleife lap record would certainly help cement Koenigsegg’s claim that the adjective-snapping One:1, which has 1341 horsepower when running on E85 ethanol and weighs 3100 pounds, is the fastest car in the world. Christian von Koenigsegg is also determined that any record would be seen as completely fair, promising to open the company to a far greater level of scrutiny than other manufacturers.

“It’s very frustrating sometimes,” he says. “There are so few stories and so few facts—what is a Nürburgring record? What state was the car running in when it was set? We’re willing to put our car on the scales, let anyone come and analyze the fuel we’re running on, see the tires we’re running on—people can come and check. We want to do this without any doubt.”

And Serwanski’s involvement may turn out to be an equally compelling part of the story. Five years ago, he was a sound-and-lighting engineer and part-time Mazda MX-5 racer, but then he got what was almost certainly the luckiest break of his life after Koenigsegg’s former test driver quit and recommended Serwanski as his replacement. If all goes to plan, he’ll be driving when the new record is set.
