BTW, do you know how the British said good bye to Jaguar when it was sold?

Ford had an issue with cruise control box mounted under the hood during the mid-90's. My late business partner had his Town Car go up in flames early one morning while parked in his garage. His car was a total loss, his wife's new Town Car parked next to it suffered some cosmetic damage. The fire department was puzzled at the cause of the fire, but Ford announced their recall a couple months later, confirming one investigator's suspicions. It seems there were quite a few similar fires in TC's, Crown Vics and F150s during this time - all while parked overnight. I don't recall any problems being reported occuring while the vehicle was underway.

Did Sam survive a car bomb assassination attempt?

Yes. On October 4, 1982, Frank Rosenthal left the Tony Roma’s restaurant on East Sahara Avenue and got into his Cadillac which then exploded. Amazingly, he survived with minor burns and injuries. A variety of factors have been attributed to his survival, including a metal plate under the driver’s seat, the driver’s side door being open at the time of the explosion and pure luck. -NY Times

Why did Sam’s car have a metal plate under the driver’s seat?

The 1981 Cadillac Eldorado had a balancing problem that was affecting the car’s handling. GM installed the metal plate under the driver’s seat to correct the problem.

Thankfully he was able to stop - if he'd been in a Toyota or Lexus he could have just kept on accelerating until he crashed.

**** Van Dyke tells TMZ ... outside of "being a little crispy around the edges," he's perfectly fine after last week's exploding car incident. In fact, he's already back behind the wheel of a new whip.

DVD was in Calabasas yesterday -- in a brand spankin' new Jaguar (a loaner) -- and the 87-year-old was still joking about the frightening moments when a Good Samaritan pulled him from his burning car on the side of the 101 Freeway.

"Well, I needed a little PR anyway," Van Dyke said.

**** tells us he learned one big lesson from the incident -- a lesson that will probably restore your faith in humanity.

So watch the clip ... unless you hate humanity.

Way to go off topic first on a simple joke and then carry on as if you were back on the original topic. I was talking about rubbing the brit's nose on the fact that Jaguar was sold to a company from their ex-colony, twice, I might add.

Now get back on topic, about D.V.D. almost getting burned.
You were excessively rude in this reply. You could have explained yourself without being so curt. I'm well aware of what the topic is. And I wasn't that far off it. I'm glad that DVD wasn't seriously hurt. I used to watch his sitcom decades ago, when I was a kid.

that website is horrible but nice interview with him - damn good shape for 87 years old - my parents are 85, 86 and nowhere near as sharp as him.

He seems like a nice guy
