First Drive: 2014 Maserati Ghibli
Like I said, I do realize they are all in it to make money, hence the mergers with exotics and more mainstream families, but the situation with Maser just has left me a little bit sour-tongued.

Maserati is stating the car is for people bored with the usual German suspects in this class. We will see if they are successful.

This car might impact the midsize class and to some degree the flagship class similar to how Tesla offers a different alternative for buyers who wants something different than the usual suspects. I can't wait to test drive it.

Maserati Ghibli gets smashed on its way to Top Safety Pick rating

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested the 2014 Maserati Ghibli, and the Italian luxury sedan scored has well enough to earn the institute's Top Safety Pick rating. The model netted "Good" marks – the IIHS' highest rating – in moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints and seats tests.
The new Maserati is equipped seven airbags and features strategic use of hot-formed steel to optimize vehicle strength for safety and aluminum to lower weight for better driving performance. While it still pains us to see two new Maseratis smashed to smithereens (watch the videos below), we imagine the company's well-heeled prospective owners will feel better about their $65,600+ purchases knowing that they aced the tests.

i actually think the infiniti is better looking, less clunky/awkward in its proportions.

True the Infiniti is more traditional and some proportions of the Ghibli do make it somewhat odd looking. But one thing Italian auto design has alway had was panache and flair.

It looks nothing like a M37 in person. The M37 is sadly an unsuccessful blend of curves that is simply overboard, its most successful part being the aggressive front end. The Ghibli is far more balanced with a much better mix of lines and curves without going overboard.
Hoovey that comparison is not fair since that BYD is literally a knock-off RX. It is purposely made to look just like a RX. I think a better example would be the old Kia Sorento which clearly copied the RX or even the cues taken by the MDX and RDX.

Maybe not, but the point being any SUV/CUV is going to share the same profile or silhouette and of course it'll draw comparisons, but that's not copying.
