Automakers may be breaking record sales levels, but Lexus has hit another milestone that other luxury brands just can’t match.

This number can also serve to judge how many dealerships are actually needed. For example, Cadillac has 928 dealerships compared to 235 for Lexus. The result was a mere 183 cars per dealer for Cadillac, and many of those franchises lost money.

Perhaps because you have over 20 million people in the state...and a lot of them have money, especially around L.A., San Francisco, and Silicon valley. California is also a very large state in physical size, extending from the Mexican border roughly as far north as the latitude of Chicago. That's obviously a lot of territory. Lexus, of course, has also been generally more popular in CA than in other states that cover a lot of territory, TX, MT, AK, etc......

Incorrect on the population of California. Total population of California as of 2014 is closer to 40 million people, actually it is 38,802,500. Yes California is the most populated state in the Union. As far as physical size California is third, Texas is second and Alaska is first. Yes Lexus is very popular in California but also in the U.S. as a whole and number 4 worldwide...so not bad for a very young luxury car brand...
