'Can' was the opportune word. The Subaru AWD system is more complex than the Lexus one goes without saying. Between RWD and AWD IS350.

Wow what a hard choice to make, as much as i love lexus i would have to say a WRX STI if its not a STI the IS350 hands down.

If you want sport and luxury get the IS350 if just looking for sport get the WRX

I had GS350 AWD and its excellent... STI's is probably more performance minded... with Lexus AWD you get really good traction. Of course, both need winter tires, I am sure you know that.

I don't think the all new WRX will come until 2015. If it does, doesn't it supposedly release more information and specifications ?

I am not in a rush to buy this car. I can wait. I now have an RX for family and wife need, Camry for my DD. But I can not get away too long from a Sporty car. I plan to trade in this old 06 Camry for either 1 of these. I no longer consider Lancer anymore due to how Bad reputation Mitsu has, and reliability. There are words saying 2015 Evo will come too....but I already see 2014, it is the exact same thing as 2013.

This is a really tough choice. I sell both cars and would find it difficult to choose. Comes down to what you want most. The WRX is a brute. But it still rides nice for daily use. It's suspension is wonderful. No body roll. Brakes are nice. Plenty of room for big guys. Everything is solid. Exhaust note is sweet. Hard to beat.

But I am bent more to luxury so I'd go with a 2014 IS350.

If we're talking about the WRX STi, no contest. I would take that brute over the IS any day.

isn't the price difference between these close to $10K as well?

STI Limited w/NAV is $40K, starts at $36K
the 2014 IS350 AWD starts @ $41K, the one I built on Edmunds (w/NAV, F-sport) was $50K

Based on this quote, I would get the WRX STi. While the new IS will be sportier than prior versions, I think the STi will be sportier with a manual and you can easily tweak it for more power since it is turboed.

Based on his first requirement "Luxury" e IS is the way to go. Plus the quote you quoted him said "sporty" not sport which the IS is. The Lexus is the better choice

The IS based on styling alone.

Ordinarily, for AWD, between the two, I'd recommend the WRX......or any Subaru. But, unlike most Subarus, the WRX/STi has had a lower than-average reliability rating (perhaps due to their many youthful owners driving them hard) . So, if you are going with a used car, definitely get the IS. If you are going to buy brand-new, though, the WRX may (?) not be quite as much of a risk, and you might consider it.

Not quite the case, Hoovey. Subie AWD systems are basically "symmetrical", which means they are better-balanced side-to-side, less-comlex, and have fewer moving parts. Other car-based AWD systems are inherently unbalanced, have more moving parts, and don't shift torque as efficiently to the wheels that need it. That is why the Subaru systems have been so hugely successful over the years. The only currently unreliable Subie system is the WRX/STi....which, as I just explained above, may (?) be for other reasons, not complexity.

The IS350, of course, uses the RWD-based AWD system illustrated on the right.
