The legendary Chris Harris reviewed the 435i, probably at the same journalist's event as autoblog. He seemed lukewarm towards the ride/handling of the 435i :

Obnoxious front bumper design. Interior looks plasticky and cheap. Retro Buick Riviera rims are behind the curve. Unpainted side mirrors and black tailpipes are downmarket.
Too many demerits to like this thing.

Don't like the front end especially in that color either, but like they said get the Luxury line or M-Sport and it'll look way better. Geez, unpainted side mirrors on a $46k car, really?? Edit: oh wait that's just for the look on the Sport line. They're body color pained on the Luxury and M-Sport lines.
Even the 3-series is getting nuts on pricing, though. I can't configure anything worth buying for less than $47-50k, for a 3-series.
I think we're probably going to be keeping my E93.

Pretty much. Don't care for the looks of this particular model (I think the Sport trim would look much better in a darker clolor) but they're definitely going to sell like crazy. Still a sexy looking car. Tons of them around in the DC area.

Re: Chris Harris review.
That's kinda the impression I've gotten of the newer BMWs myself. They're still great DRIVING and HANDLING cars, but you just can't FEEL that they're anything special, and that completely changes your perception of the car. I know the loaner 528's I've had are far better driving and handling cars than my parents 2012 Camry, but I just wasn't able to FEEL that it's any better in normal driving. A neighbor who test drove a 528i felt the same way, and ended up buying the new Honda Accord. Even my wife can tell the difference. Even though they're "better" in many ways, the new BMWs just don't appeal to your senses nearly as well as the older ones do.
