Buick was offering something similar in the early 80's with the Riveria. Instead of the standard looking opera lamp, you got these cool "Riveria" logo lamps. What's old is new again.

As for stand up hood ornaments, I personally love them. That was the one pro left about the E Class when I was looking. I think its a shame they are so rare nowadays. I'd much rather nave a nice, elegant chrome three pointed star standing up on the hood than a huge backlit monstrosity on the grille.

 

LOL hopefully this doesn't become the new fad like when Audi introduced the led drl's and now every luxury car brand has them....
