True.....and, if course, even with ear-protection, those who are often around and/or drive such vehicles sometimes suffer hearing damage as they age.
300 MPH quarter-mile speeds, BTW, have become run-of-the-mill now for Funny Cars and Top-Fuel eliminators. And, of course, engine-explosions are always a possibility when you are running that kind of power with nitro-fuels.
NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car class now only race to 1,000 feet. Been that way since 2008. Still, 300 plus MPH in "less than" a 1/4 mile is just flat out, blinding speed.

This was done because of the death of Scott Kalitta in a Top Fuel car, with engine failure/fire.
